It shared its chassis and many parts, including engines, with the Pontiac Grand Am. All Aleros came in base ''GX'', mid-level ''GL'', or high-end ''GLS'' trim; the ''GL'' trim was split into three levels: 1, 2, and 3. The Alero experienced minimal changes du ...

Buick Somerset
The Buick Skylark is a passenger car formerly produced by Buick. The model was made in six production runs, during 46 years, over which the car's design varied dramatically due to changing technology, tastes, and new standards implemented over the years. It was named for the species of bird called ''skylark''. The Skylark name first appeared on a limited production luxury convertible using the Buick Roadmaster's chassis for two years, then was reintroduced in 1961 as a higher luxury content alternative to the entry-level Buick Special on which the Skylark was based upon. GM J Platform
The General Motors J platform, or J-body, is an automobile platform that was used by General Motors for compact cars from the 1982 to 2005 model years. The third generation of compact cars designed by GM, the J-body marked the introduction of front-wheel drive for its compact model lines, replacing the rear-wheel drive H platform. The J-body was marketed as a world car, with GM brands selling versions of the platform in North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan; in markets outside of North America, the model line was packaged as a mid-size car. Outside North America, the use of the J platform was phased out after the 1980s in favor of the Opel-based GM2900 platform. In North America, the introduction of the Saturn S-Series would lead to the consolidation of the J-body to the Chevrolet and Pontiac brands. Following several major revisions, the J platform remained in use into the 21st century; in June 2005, the final example (a Pontiac Sunfire) was produced. Introduced by Sa ...

Getrag F23 Transmission
The F23 is a five-speed manual transmission manufactured by Getrag in Italy. It is designed for transverse engine applications, primarily by General Motors. It can handle torque inputs of over . The F23 has one roll pin, two gearsets on each of three parallel shafts – the input shaft, the output shaft, and the intermediate shaft. This three-shaft (also called three-axis) design results in a very short axial length for better packaging. There are three separate shift fork shafts, which hold three shift forks to activate the synchronizer rings for the two gearsets on each of the three gear shafts. The shift forks are activated by a cable system. The clutch release bearing is operated by a concentric slave cylinder that surrounds the input shaft in the clutch housing. A concentric slave cylinder allows more linear clutch feel than an external lever-actuated clutch and release bearing. The input shaft carries the 3rd and 4th gear synchronizer, the intermediate shaft carries the 1 ...

Getrag 282 Transmission
The Getrag 282 transmission was a 5-speed manual transaxle designed by Getrag for Chevrolet. It is sometimes referred to as the Muncie 282 or the Muncie Getrag 282, as the transmission was manufactured by the Muncie, Indiana manual transmission plant. It has been used in various front-wheel drive transverse engine applications including the Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunbird, Pontiac Grand Am, Chevrolet Beretta and the Oldsmobile Achieva. It was also used in the mid-engined rear-wheel drive Pontiac Fiero. In its later years, the Getrag 282 was manufactured by New Venture Gear and renamed the NVG T550. Gear ratios The topic of available gear ratios has been widely debated due to the numerous applications of this transaxle. The 1987 GM Getrag Service ManualGeneral Motors Corporation (1987). Muncie Five-Speed Manual Transaxle, GM Product Service Training 17004.04-1. confirms that there are at least two versions of the Getrag 282. According to the manual, the two versions were s ...

GM 4T40 Transmission
The 4T40-E and 4T45-E are a series of automatic transaxles from General Motors. Designed for transverse engine configurations, the series includes 4 forward gears. The 4Txx family replaced the Turbo-Hydramatic 125 transverse three speed automatic introduced in 1980. The "-E" series is electronically controlled and features an automatic overdrive transaxle with an electronically controlled torque converter clutch. Since non-electronic versions of these transmissions do not exist, it is conventional to refer to these models as simply 4T40 and 4T45, leaving out the "-E". The 4T40 and 4T45 were assembled at Windsor Transmission in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. 4T40 The "MN4" 4T40E is able to handle vehicles up to 4000 lb (1814 kg) GVWR. The final drive ratio can vary depending on the car's curb weight and engine power output. 3.91, 3.63, 3.29, 3.05, 3.69, and 3.42 are all of the available ratios used in the 4T40 (and 4T45) transmission; Made possible by using combinations ...
