Glomerular Filtration Rate
Renal functions include maintaining an acid–base balance; regulating fluid balance; regulating sodium, potassium, and other electrolytes; clearing toxins; absorption of glucose, amino acids, and other small molecules; regulation of blood pressure; production of various hormones, such as erythropoietin; and activation of vitamin D. One of the measures of kidney function is the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Glomerular filtration rate describes the flow rate of filtered fluid through the kidney. Creatinine clearance rate (CCr or CrCl) is the volume of blood plasma that is cleared of creatinine per unit time and is a useful measure for approximating the GFR. Creatinine clearance exceeds GFR due to creatinine secretion, which can be blocked by cimetidine. Both GFR and CCr may be accurately calculated by comparative measurements of substances in the blood and urine, or estimated by formulas using just a blood test result (eGFR and eCCr) The results of these tests are used ...

Grand Forks Railway
The Grand Forks Railway is a shortline railway company operating in the West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Former operators In Grand Forks, a former north–south section of the Kettle Valley Lines (KVL) (the operating company for the Kettle River Valley Railway (KRVR) and the Spokane and British Columbia Railway) both crossed and connected with the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) line near the north end of today's 5 St. The KRVR became the CP's Kettle Valley Railway. Although the former KRVR track north of this crossing no longer exists, it continues southwest almost to the south end of today's Cooper Rd. The Pacific Abrasives & Supply yard is on the southeast corner of where the former KRVR crossed the former north–south Great Northern Railway (GN) spur that accessed north and northwest of Grand Forks. This abrasives company has been shipping processed slag from the former Granby smelter for use in sandblasting or coating roofing tiles. At this crossing, ...

Gas-cooled Fast Reactor
The gas-cooled fast reactor (GFR) system is a nuclear reactor design which is currently in development. Classed as a Generation IV reactor, it features a fast-neutron spectrum and closed fuel cycle for efficient conversion of fertile uranium and management of actinides. The reference reactor design is a helium- cooled system operating with an outlet temperature of 850 °C using a direct Brayton closed-cycle gas turbine for high thermal efficiency. Several fuel forms are being considered for their potential to operate at very high temperatures and to ensure an excellent retention of fission products: composite ceramic fuel, advanced fuel particles, or ceramic clad elements of actinide compounds. Core configurations are being considered based on pin- or plate-based fuel assemblies or prismatic blocks, which allows for better coolant circulation than traditional fuel assemblies. The reactors are intended for use in nuclear power plants to produce electricity, while at the s ...

Government Flight Representative
A Government Flight Representative (GFR) is a US Military Officer or similarly qualified US Government Civilian with the responsibility for aircraft operations conducted by commercial contractors using Department of Defense (DoD) aircraft. Authority GFR authority derives from two Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) contract clauses known as the ''Ground and Flight Risk Clause'' and the ''Flight Risk Clause''. Any DoD contract involving the production, modification, maintenance, repair, or overhaul of aircraft must contain one of these two clauses which requires the US Government to assign a GFR to oversee the contractor's operations. These two clauses serve to both indemnify the contractor (reducing program expenses) and also to help protect the assets. Qualifications A GFR must be a current military aircraft crewmember or be a US Government Civilian with previous military aircraft experience. A week-long qualification course (operated by the Defense Contract ...

Fertility
Fertility is the capability to produce offspring through reproduction following the onset of sexual maturity. The fertility rate is the average number of children born by a female during her lifetime and is quantified demographically. Fertility is addressed when there is a difficulty or an inability to reproduce naturally, which is referred to as infertility. Infertility is widespread, with fertility specialists available all over the world to assist mothers and couples who experience difficulties having a baby. Human fertility depends on factors of nutrition, sexual behaviour, consanguinity, culture, instinct, endocrinology, timing, economics, personality, way of life, and emotions. Fertility differs from fecundity, which is defined as the ''potential'' for reproduction (influenced by gamete production, fertilization and carrying a pregnancy to term). Where a woman or the lack of fertility is infertility while a lack of fecundity would be called sterility. Demography I ...
