Grupo Desportivo Os Operários, sometimes known as Sport Operários e Benfica, is a football club that plays in the Principe Island League in São Tomé and Príncipe. The team is based in the island of Príncipe and plays at Estádio 13 de Julho in the island capital as every club on the island does. Os Operários the second successful football (soccer) club in Príncipe, it has one of the most honours in São Tomé and Príncipe, having won about 14 official titles, six are national and the remaining eight are regional titles. The club was once affiliated to Portugal's S.L. Benfica. Logo Its logo has a near-circle thick rim with blue on the left, purple in the middle and red on right. Sporting Clube do Príncipe is a football club that plays in the island of Principe in São Tomé and Príncipe. The team plays in the Principe Island League in its local division. Príncipe Island League
Príncipe Island League is the top division of the São Toméan Football Federation for the Príncipe Island. The league consists only a single tier and features six clubs. GD Os Operários is the current championship winner which won a total of five titles and is now the only club with the most titles numbering five. Since 2011, every single club on the island has a regional championship title. History The first edition took place in 1985. Cancellations occurred first to financial problems and only a few clubs that time, from 1986 to 1988, then from 1991 to 1992 and from 1994 to 1997. São Tomé and Principe Championship (Portuguese: ''Campeonato Nacional'') is the top division of the São Toméan Football Federation. In the current 2021/22 season there are 18 teams participating in two separate leagues - 12 teams from São Tomé Island, whose league has two relegation places, alongside 6 teams from Príncipe Island, which operates as a single division with no relegation. The championship is decided in a match between the São Tomé Island champions and the Príncipe Island champions. The champion heads to the qualifying round of the CAF Champions League each season, for some seasons, there were no participants.
