Grupo Desportivo Cruz Vermelha (Portuguese for the São Tomé and Príncipe Red Cross, Red Cross) is a football (soccer), football club that plays in the São Tomé and Príncipe Championship, it is based in the village of Almeirim, São Tomé and Príncipe, Almeirim. It is named after the Red Cross. The team has yet to win any major titles in its history. The club won Group A of the second division in 2003 and participated into the first division. Estádio Nacional 12 de Julho is a multi-use stadium in the neighbourhood of Ponta da Mina southeast of the centre of São Tomé, São Tomé and Príncipe and is located on Avenida das Nações Unidas. São Tomé and Principe Championship (Portuguese: ''Campeonato Nacional'') is the top division of the São Toméan Football Federation. In the current 2021/22 season there are 18 teams participating in two separate leagues - 12 teams from São Tomé Island, whose league has two relegation places, alongside 6 teams from Príncipe Island, which operates as a single division with no relegation. The championship is decided in a match between the São Tomé Island champions and the Príncipe Island champions. The champion heads to the qualifying round of the CAF Champions League each season, for some seasons, there were no participants. Since 1998, the champion competes in the São Tomé and Príncipe Super Cup in the following year.
