Günter Voglmayr
Günter Voglmayr (21 February 1968 – 11 January 2012) was an Austrian classical flutist. Life Born in Ried im Innkreis, Voglmayr got his first flute lessons at the age of 8, from 1978 with Helmut Trawöger at the Landesmusikschule Grieskirchen and 4 years later he studied with Wolfgang Schulz at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Voglmayr was a prizewinner at the national competition and a participant in the Eurovision competition Eurovision Young Musicians in Copenhagen. In 1987 he was first flutist of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester under Claudio Abbado and Franz Welser-Möst as well as with the stage orchestra of the Austrian Federal Theatres. In 1993 Voglmayr took up the position of flautist at the Vienna State Opera. In 1996 he became a member of the Vienna Philharmonic as successor to Herbert Reznicek. Flutist
The flute is a family of classical music instrument in the woodwind group. Like all woodwinds, flutes are aerophones, meaning they make sound by vibrating a column of air. However, unlike woodwind instruments with Reed (instrument), reeds, a flute is a reedless wind instrument that produces its sound from the flow of air across an opening. According to the instrument classification of Hornbostel–Sachs, flutes are categorized as edge-blown aerophones. A musician who plays the flute is called a flautist or flutist. Flutes are the paleolithic flutes, earliest known identifiable musical instruments, as paleolithic examples with hand-bored holes have been found. A number of flutes dating to about 53,000 to 45,000 years ago have been found in the Swabian Jura region of present-day Germany. Christian Merlin (born 2 March 1964) is a French contemporary music critic and musicologist. Biography Christian Merlin, who holds an agrégation in German and a doctorate in literature, is a musicologist and a lecturer at the Charles de Gaulle University – Lille III. Clemens Hellsberg
Clemens Hellsberg (born 28 March 1952) is an Austrian violinist and from 1997 to 2014 was director of the Wiener Philharmoniker. Life Born in Linz, after attending the Schottengymnasium in Vienna, Hellsberg studied musicology and ancient history at the University of Vienna, where he received his doctorate in 1980. At the same time he studied violin at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He was a special forces soldier, a member of the Jagdkommando with the Bundesheer. In 1976 he was employed by the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, and from 1978 played as first violinist in the orchestra of the same opera house. The Philharmonic recorded him in 1980. From 1997 to 2014 he succeeded Werner Resel on the board of directors. In September 2014, Andreas Großbauer succeeded him in this function. In 2016 he went into retirement. Zurich Chamber Orchestra
The Zurich Chamber Orchestra (Zürcher Kammerorchester; ZKO, German abbreviation) is a Swiss chamber orchestra based in Zurich. The ZKO's principal concert venue in Zurich is the Tonhalle. The ZKO also performs in Zurich at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, the ''ZKO-Haus'' in the Seefeld quarter of the city, and such churches as the Fraumünster and the Kirche St. Peter. The ZKO presents approximately 40 performances in Zurich each year, in addition to approximately 40 children's concerts and performances elsewhere in Switzerland and abroad. In the 2016–2017, season the total number of concerts was151, a record for the ZKO. The Vienna Chamber Orchestra (Wiener Kammer Orchester, or WKO) is an Austrian chamber orchestra based at the Vienna Konzerthaus. History The WKO was founded in 1946, and its first artistic directors were Franz Litschauer, Heinrich Hollreiser, Paul Angerer, and Carlo Zecchi. When he took over the position from 1976 to 1991, Philippe Entremont started a tradition of conductors playing a dual rôle, appearing as both conductor and soloist. Entremont has continued as the Orchestra's lifetime honorary conductor, leading it on tour and in its matinée subscription series at the Konzerthaus.
