Gys Van Beek
Gys Jansen-Van Beek (March 31, 1919 – November 14, 2015) was a Dutch-American inventor who, as a member of the Dutch resistance during World War II, helped rescue members of the Allies of World War II, Allied forces and is also recognized as an Aid Giver for helping Jews escaping the History of the Jews in the Netherlands#The Holocaust, Holocaust. Early life Born March 31, 1919, in Angeren, the Netherlands, Van Beek grew up on a farm. He was a member of the Reformed Churches in the Netherlands. Activity during World War II After Nazi Germany Battle of the Netherlands, invaded the Netherlands in May 1940 Van Beek was among many Dutch the Germans tried to recruit. He avoided the recruitment and eventually joined the Dutch resistance. Using forged identity papers he was able to help civilians and downed Allied pilots escape the Netherlands. Angeren
Angeren is a village in the municipality of Lingewaard, Gelderland province, Netherlands. It has a population of 2,851 (1 January 2009), and is located in the very eastern tip of the Betuwe, 2 km to the south of Huissen, between the cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen. Angeren is first mentioned as ''Angrina'' in a document dated 814 or 815. By 1160 Angeren was an independent parish. During the Middle Ages, Angeren grew to a village with a village square, a fortification ''('Het Roode Wald')'' and a flour mill. The symbol of Angeren is ''Het Keuje'' ('The Pig') and there is a small statue of it in the centre of the town. The ''Idaho Statesman'' is the daily newspaper of Boise, Idaho, in the western United States. It is owned by The McClatchy Company. History The paper was first published as the ''Idaho Tri-Weekly Statesman'' on July 26, 1864, by James S. Reynolds; it began publication from a log cabin on the current site of Boise City Hall. Reynolds owned and operated the paper for its first eight years, selling to Judge Milton Kelly in 1872. Kelly's 17-year run ended in 1888, with the expansion to daily publication, and a name change: The ''Idaho Daily Statesman''. That summer, Kelly sold the paper to the Cobb family, which went on to run the paper for 70 years. Calvin Cobb published the ''Statesman'' until his death in 1928, when control was transferred to his daughter Margaret Cobb Ailshie. Farmers Home Administration
The Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) was a U.S. government agency established in August 1946 to replace the Farm Security Administration. It superseded the Resettlement Administration during the Great Depression and operated until 2006. FmHA mission and programs involved extending credit for agriculture and rural development. Direct and guaranteed credit went to individual farmers, low-income families, and seniors in rural areas. Loans were authorized for housing, farm improvement, water systems, and emergency relief. FmHA also gave loans and grants for rural development. The program resulted in increased African-American land ownership in the South; for instance, black landowners increased in number in Holmes County, Mississippi, during the 1940s.
