Gymnastics At The 2008 Summer Olympics
At the 2008 Summer Olympics, three gymnastics disciplines were contested: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline. The artistic gymnastics events were held at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium on August 9–19. The rhythmic gymnastics events were held at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium on August 21–24. The trampoline events were also held at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium on August 16–19. Huang Xu
Huang Xu (; born February 4, 1979) is a Chinese artistic gymnast. He specializes on the pommel horse and the parallel bars and is also strong on still rings. Background Huang began gymnastics training when he was five and was a member of the Jiangxu provincial team in 1989. At the age of 14, he was selected into the national team. National team Huang represented China at the 2000 Summer Olympics and was a member of the gold-medal-winning Chinese team. Individually, he placed 7th in the parallel bars event final, with a score of 9.650. During the 2004 Summer Olympics, Huang contributed heavily to the Chinese gymnastics team, a 9.675 on pommel horse, a 9.712 on still rings and a 9.687 on horizontal bar. Justin Spring
Justin Edward Spring (born March 11, 1984) is a retired American gymnast. He is a member of the bronze medal winning U.S. team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He was also a top gymnast in NCAA competition, where he represented the University of Illinois. Personal life Spring was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Burke, Virginia. He graduated from Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, VA in 2002. His father Sherwood Spring is a retired NASA astronaut. His sister, Sarah, was also a highly decorated collegiate gymnast at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH from 2000 to 2004. On May 29, 2010, Spring married fellow Illinois alumna Tori Tanney. Jonathan Horton
Jonathan Alan Horton (born December 31, 1985) is a former American artistic gymnast. He is the 2008 Olympic silver medalist on high bar, the 2010 World all-around bronze medalist, a two-time Olympian, a two-time U.S. National All-Around Champion, and a 17-time medalist at the U.S. National Championships. At the 2008 Olympics, he also won a bronze medal with his U.S. teammates in the team competition. He also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he qualified for the high bar event final and finished in sixth place. Joseph "Joe" Hagerty (born April 19, 1982, in Albuquerque, New Mexico) is an American artistic gymnast. He is the 2008 U.S. national champion on the horizontal bar and the 2008 all-around bronze medalist. He was a member of the bronze medal-winning 2008 U.S. Olympic team. A native of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Hagerty was coached by Ed Burch, owner of Gold Cup Gymnastics in Albuquerque, NM. Stephen Raj Bhavsar (born September 7, 1980) is an American artistic gymnast. He was a member of the 2001 and 2003 World Championships U.S. team. He earned a bronze medal as a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team. He was originally an alternate, but was named to the team following the injury withdrawal of Paul Hamm.
