Gymnastics At The 1988 Summer Olympics
At the 1988 Summer Olympics, two different gymnastics disciplines were contested: artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics. The artistic gymnastics events were held at the Olympic Gymnastics Hall in Seoul from September 18 through 25th. The rhythmic gymnastics events were held at the same venue from September 28 through 30th. For the first time in Olympic competition, each routine in women's artistic gymnastics events was judged by six judges, with the final score composed of the average of the judges' scores, after the highest and lowest marks were dropped. Men's routines continued to be judged by four judges, as at previous Olympics. Olympic Gymnastics Arena
The Olympic Gymnastics Arena (), also known as the KSPO Dome since 2018, is an indoor arena located within the Olympic Park in Seoul, South Korea. It has a capacity of 15,000 and can be extended upto 20,000. It was constructed between 31 August 1984 and 30 April 1986, to host the gymnastics competitions at the 1988 Summer Olympics. The roof was designed by David H. Geiger. It is a self-supporting cable dome – the first of its kind ever built – with a four-layer fabric cladding. History Since the Olympics it has hosted a variety of events, notably as a concert venue for both South Korean and international artists. The arena is also infamous due to an incident in early 1992 when American boy band New Kids on the Block abruptly halted their performance after 20 minutes due to a fatal human crush incident where female Korean teenagers swarmed the band to the stage. Ulf Hoffmann
Ulf Hoffmann (born 8 September 1961) is a retired German gymnast. He missed the 1984 Summer Olympics due to their boycott by East Germany and took part in the Friendship Games instead, winning a silver medal in the team competition. He won another silver medal with the East German team at the 1988 Summer Olympics. His best individual result at those Games was 13th place on parallel bars. He won three bronze medal at the world championships in 1985 and 1987 (team) and European championships in 1985 (parallel bars). Lubomir Geraskov ( bg, Любомир Герасков, born December 27, 1968) is a Bulgarian gymnast and Olympic champion. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul where he won Olympic gold on pommel horse. Early life Lyubomir Geraskov was born on December 27, 1968, in his hometown, slightly on the outskirts of Bulgaria's capital and largest city, Sofia. Under the communist law, Lubomir was forced into strict schooling. This though, was where his gymnastics talent began to become very noticeable to many people.
