Gymnastics At The 1964 Summer Olympics – Men's Pommel Horse
The men's pommel horse was a gymnastics event contested as part of the Gymnastics at the 1964 Summer Olympics programme at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. The event was held on 18, 20, and 22 October. There were 128 competitors from 29 nations, with nations in the team competition having up to 6 gymnasts and other nations entering up to 3 gymnasts. The event was won by Miroslav Cerar of Yugoslavia, the nation's first medal in the pommel horse. Silver went to Shuji Tsurumi of Japan, the third man to win multiple medals in the event (adding to his 1960 bronze). Yury Tsapenko of the Soviet Union took bronze, breaking a three-Games gold medal streak for the Soviets. Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium
is a sporting complex in Sendagaya, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Built in 1954 for the World Wrestling Championship, it was also used as the venue for gymnastics at the 1964 Summer Olympics, and hosted the table tennis competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The gymnasium was rebuilt to a futuristic design created by Pritzker Prize winner Fumihiko Maki from 1986 to 1990. The gymnasium is a one-minute walk from Sendagaya Station on the Chūō-Sōbu Line and Kokuritsu Kyogijo Station on the Toei Oedo Line. Luigi Cimnaghi
Luigi Cimnaghi (10 August 1940 – 22 March 2024) was an Italian sports administrator and gymnast. He competed at the 1964 and 1968 Olympics in all artistic gymnastics events and finished in 4th and 12th place with the Italian team, respectively. His best individual result was 14th place on the parallel bars in 1964. He won gold medals with the Italian team at the 1963 and 1967 Mediterranean Games, as well as four individual medals in 1967: two silvers, on the parallel bars and vault, and two bronze medals, all-around and on the horizontal bar. After retiring from competitions Cimnaghi worked as a sports administrator. As a member of the European Union of Gymnastics he oversaw international junior competitions from 1984 to 1989. Viktor Nikitovich Lisitsky (russian: Ви́ктор Ники́тович Лиси́цкий; 18 October 1939 – 13 June 2023) was a Russian gymnast. He competed in all artistic gymnastics events at the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics and won five silver medals, three individual in 1964 and two with the Soviet team, in 1964 and 1968. At the European championships Lisitsky won three titles in 1965 (rings, vault and pommel horse), three in 1967 (rings, vault and horizontal bar), and one in 1969 (horizontal bar), and finished second five times. At the World championships, he only won two team silver medals, in 1962 and 1970. Sergey Diomidov
Sergey Viktorovich Diomidov (russian: Сергей Викторович Диомидов; born 9 July 1943) is a Soviet former Gymnastics, gymnast who competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics and in the 1968 Summer Olympics. He won team silver medals at both Games and a bronze on the vault in 1968. He invented a skill on parallel bars. Biography Between 1961 and 1967, Diomidov trained at the Amy Forces Club in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. In 1968, he moved to Moscow where he was coached by Konstantin Karakashyants at the CSKA club. Franco Menichelli (born 3 August 1941) is a retired Italian gymnast. He competed in all artistic gymnastics events at the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Olympics and won one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals. Biography He was most successful in 1964, when he won a gold on the floor, a silver on rings and a bronze on parallel bars. Takuji Hayata
is a retired Japanese gymnast. At the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, he won gold medals in the rings and team all-around events. Individually he finished eighth all around.
