National Gymnastics Arena
The National Gymnastics Arena is an indoor arena in Baku, Azerbaijan. The venue is mainly used for gymnastics. Overview National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan was designed by Broadway Malyan. PASHA Construction (PASHA Holding) appointed Broadway Malyan to develop the arena from start to finish after winning a competition to design the scheme in 2011. The construction of the NGA started in August 2009, and was inaugurated in April 2014. The arena has capacity of 5,000–9,000 seats depending on the event conducting. Airdome The NGA has an additional training hall - Airdome, which was constructed in the south part of the arena on an area of 6000 m². The dome is kept inflated by ventilators creating internal pressure. Eleftherios "Lefteris" Petrounias ( gr, Ελευθέριος "Λευτέρης" Πετρούνιας; born 30 November 1990, Athens) is a Greek artistic gymnast. He is the 2016 Olympic champion, 2020 Olympic bronze medalist, three-time World champion (2015, 2017, 2018) and a six-time (2011, 2015–18, 2021, 2022) European medalist on the still rings (six gold and one bronze). He was named the Greek Male Athlete of the Year, for the years 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Early life and education Petrounias grew up as a hyperactive child, and at the age of five, his mother brought him to the Panionios Gymnastics Club so that he could release his energy. Nikita Alekseevich Ignatyev (russian: Никита Алексеевич Игнатьев, born 21 June 1992 in Novosibirsk, Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia) is a Russian artistic gymnast. İbrahim Çolak (born ) is a Turkish male artistic gymnast, representing his nation at international competitions. At the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey, Çolak won the silver medal, his country's first medal in the Mediterranean Games. The 2015 European Games, also known as Baku 2015 or Baku 2015 European Games ( az, Bakı 2015 Avropa Oyunları), were the inaugural edition of the European Games, an international multi-sport event for athletes representing the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the European Olympic Committees. It took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 12 to 28 June 2015, and featured almost 6,000 athletes from 50 countries competing in 30 sports, including 15 summer Olympic and 2 non-Olympic sports. Host selection Baku was awarded the right to host the first European Games at the 41st EOC General Assembly in Rome, on 8 December 2012. Ihor (Igor) Vitaliyovych Radivilov ( uk, Ігор Віталійович Радівілов; born 19 October 1992) is a Ukrainian gymnast and three-time Olympian, having competed at the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympic Games. Oleg Yuriyovych Verniaiev ( uk, Олег Юрійович Верняєв; born 29 September 1993) is a Ukrainian artistic gymnast. He is the 2016 Olympic parallel bars champion and individual all-around silver medalist. Verniaiev is also the 2014 World parallel bars champion, the 2015 European individual all-around champion and the 2017 European individual all-around champion. Verniaiev tested positive for the banned substance meldonium in an out-of-competition test in August 2020. He received a four-year ban, starting in November 2020. Fabian Hambüchen (also spelled Hambuechen; ; born 25 October 1987) is a retired German gymnast who was a four-time Olympian (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016) and was Olympic, World, and European champion.
