The women's vault competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held at the North Greenwich Arena on 5 August. Qualification results Reserves * * * Final results McKayla Maroney of the United States, the defending world champion and top qualifier to the vault final, was the favourite to win but placed second after falling on her second vault. Oksana Chusovitina, who placed fifth, set a record by competing in her sixth consecutive Olympic vault final. * *Black landed on her face during her first vault, and it was deemed by the judges that her feet did not land first (though replays suggested this may not have been the case). She started to attempt a second vault, but ran past the table due to realising that she was more injured than she thought. She had the option to attempt her second vault again, but declined due to injury. The O2 Arena, commonly known as the O2 (stylised as The O2 arena), is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the centre of the O2 entertainment complex on the Greenwich Peninsula in southeast London. Giulia Steingruber
Giulia Steingruber (born 24 March 1994) is a retired Swiss artistic gymnast. She is the 2016 Olympic and 2017 World bronze medalist on vault. Additionally she is the 2015 European all-around champion, a four-time European vault champion (2013, 2014, 2016, and 2021) and the 2016 European floor exercise champion. Steingruber also competed for Switzerland at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She is the first Swiss female gymnast to win the European all-around title and the first Swiss female gymnast ever to win an Olympic gymnastics medal of any color. Three gymnastics disciplines were contested at the 2012 Olympic Games in London: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampolining. The trampoline events were held at the North Greenwich Arena (normally called The O2 Arena) from 3 to 4 August; the artistic events were also held at the North Greenwich Arena, from 28 July to 7 August. The rhythmic gymnastics events took place at Wembley Arena from 9 to 12 August. A total of 54 medals were awarded across the three disciplines. Phan Thị Hà Thanh (born 16 October 1991) is a retired Vietnamese artistic gymnast from Haiphong and a two-time Olympian (2012 and 2016). She is currently the most decorated and successful gymnast from Vietnam on the international stage.
