Gymnastics At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Men's Artistic Individual All-around
The men's individual all-around competition was one of eight events for male competitors in artistic gymnastics at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The qualification and final rounds took place on September 16 and 20 at the Sydney SuperDome. There were 97 competitors from 32 nations. Each nation could enter a team of 6 gymnasts (returning to the longstanding team size after one Games of teams of 7 in 1996) or up to 2 individual gymnasts. The event was won by Alexei Nemov of Russia, the nation's first victory in the event. Nemov, with a silver medal in 1996, became the 12th man to earn multiple medals in the all-around. Yang Wei of China took silver. Oleksandr Beresch earned bronze, Ukraine's first medal in the event. Background This was the 23rd appearance of the men's individual all-around. Sydney Super Dome
The Sydney SuperDome (currently known as the Qudos Bank Arena) is a large multipurpose arena located in Sydney, Australia. It is situated in Sydney Olympic Park, and was completed in 1999 as part of the facilities for the 2000 Summer Olympics. The A$190million facility was designed by COX Architecture & Devine deFlon Yaeger, and constructed by Abigroup and Obayashi Corporation. Bob Carr, premier of New South Wales, officially opened the stadium in November 1999. The development of the stadium was part of three subsites which also included a 3,400-space carpark which cost A$25 million, and a plaza with external works, also costing $25 million. Alexei Bondarenko
Alexei Bondarenko (born August 23, 1978) is a gymnast who competed for Russia from 1996 to 2004. He won two medals at the 2000 Summer Olympics – silver on the vault and bronze in the team event. Personal life Bondarenko was born August 23, 1978 in Kostanay, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union. Career Bondarenko started gymnastics in 1987 at age 9. During his career, he was coached by Valery Alfosov at Dynamo Moscow. 1996–2000 Bondarenko made his international debut in the 1996 European Junior Championships at 17 where he won the gold medal in the all-around. The next year, in 1996, he ranked sixth in the all-around in the Russian Championships but he was not selected to compete in the 1996 Olympics. Benjamin Varonian (born 15 June 1980 in Nice, France) is a French-Armenian Olympic gymnast. Varonian won two gold medals in the parallel bars and team all-around at the 1998 European Junior Gymnastics Championships. Naoya Tsukahara
Naoya Tsukahara (Japanese:塚原 直也 ''Tsukahara Naoya'', born June 25, 1977) is a former Japanese artistic gymnast and 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist now coaching and competing for Australia. He is the son of the former Japanese gymnast, Mitsuo Tsukahara, who was also a multiple gold medalist in the Olympic Games during the 1960s and 70s. He competed at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics as well as many World Championships for team Japan from 1996 until 2006. Marian Drăgulescu (born 18 December 1980 in Bucharest) is a former Romanian artistic gymnast. During his senior gymnastics career he won 31 medals at Olympic Games at World and European Championships, of which eight are gold medals at the World Championships and ten are gold medals at European Championships.
