Gymnastics At The 1980 Summer Olympics – Men's Horizontal Bar
The men's horizontal bar competition was one of eight events for male competitors in artistic gymnastics at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. The qualification and final rounds took place on July 20, 22 and 25th at the Luzhniki Palace of Sports. There were 65 competitors from 14 nations, with nations competing in the team event having 6 gymnasts while other nations could have to up to 3 gymnasts. The event was won by Stoyan Deltchev of Bulgaria, the nation's first medal in the horizontal bar. The Soviet Union took silver (Alexander Dityatin) and bronze (Nikolai Andrianov), reaching the podium for the first time since 1968. Japan's three-Games gold medal streak ended, with no Japanese gymnasts competing due to the American-led boycott. Luzhniki Palace of Sports, formerly the Palace of Sports of the Central Lenin Stadium, is a sports arena in Moscow, Russia, a part of the Luzhniki Olympic Complex. Built in 1956, it originally had a spectator capacity of 13,700. In the past it was the host site of the world and European championships in ice hockey, gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, boxing, skateboarding and other sports. Zoltán Magyar
Zoltán Magyar (born 13 December 1953) was the world's leading pommel horse gymnast in the 1970s. In this event he won two Olympic, three world, three European and two World Cup titles. Magyar had two moves named after him, the Magyar spindle (turning the body in the opposite direction from the circling legs) and the Magyar travel (crosswise circling travel down the horse). He won the Olympic gold in 1976 and 1980, world championships gold in 1974, 1978 and 1979, European championships gold in 1973, 1975 and 1977; and World Cup gold in 1975 and 1978. His largest margin of victory came at the 1978 World Championships, which he won by 0.375 points. For his achievements he was named Hungarian Sportsman of the year in 1974, 1978 and 1980. Lutz Hoffmann
Lutz Hoffmann (30 January 1959 – 5 December 1997) was an East German gymnast and Olympic silver medalist. Early life and training He began gymnastics training at the age of five. Beginning in 1976, he trained with the SC Dynamo Berlin. His younger brother Ulf Hoffmann was likewise an Olympic gymnast. In their youth, they shared a boarding school room during their time with SC Synamo Berlin. Career In 1979 Hoffmann became GDR champion in the floor exercise and finished second in the vault. Aleksandr Vasilyevich Tkachyov (russian: Алекса́ндр Васи́льевич Ткачёв) (born 4 November 1957) is a former Soviet/Russian gymnast and two times Olympic Champion. He trained in Dynamo, Voronezh. His trainer was USSR national Pyotr Fyodorovich Korchagin. Tkachev was one of the world's strongest gymnasts between 1977 and 1981. In 1977 Tkachev performed for the first time a gymnastics element on the Horizontal Bar, which was later named ''Tkachev'' after him and became one of the most popular and impressive elements, frequently used on international gymnastics competitions.
