Jack Gwynne (April 12, 1895 – December 7, 1969) was an American illusionist, actor and creator of magic effects. Early life Born Joseph McCloud Gwynne in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Gwynne was inspired to become a magician after seeing a performance by Harry Kellar and Howard Thurston in 1908. With little money to procure magic props from professional outlets, Gwynne began designing and building his own tricks and illusions. He married Anne Apel (1896–1979) in 1915 and had two children; Margaret (Peggy) Gwynne (1916–1973) and Virden “Buddy” Gwynne (1917–1978). During the 1910s and early 1920s, Gwynne was employed by the Edgar Thompson Steel Mill (Carnegie Steel) in Pittsburgh during the day and performed and built magic at night. Ivor H. Gwynne (1867–1934) was a Welsh trade unionist and politician. Born in Briton Ferry,Arthur Mee, ''Who's Who in Wales'' (1921), p.170 Gwynne worked in the tinplate industry all his life. He joined the Independent Association of Tinplate Makers on its formation in 1886, but it collapsed in 1898. Gwynne was central to the formation of a new union, the Tin and Sheet Millmen's Association, becoming its first president. Howell Gwynne (MP)
Howell Gwynne (16 April 1718 – 1780) was a British politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Radnorshire from 1755 to 1761, and Old Sarum 1761 to 1768. Educated at Christ Church, Oxford, Howell stood unsuccessfully at the 1754 general election as candidate for Breconshire. The following year he was chosen by chosen by the agents of the Duke of Newcastle as their candidate for the Radnorshire seat which had been vacated by Sir Humphrey Howorth. He was elected unopposed, and his expenses £173 were paid out of secret service money. His subsequent appointment as Lord Lieutenant of Radnorshire offended Lord Carnarvon, and a deal was eventually reached whereby Gwynne would remain Lord Lieutenant for five years, and at the next election abandon Radnorshire in favour of a seat in the rotten borough of Old Sarum. Horace "Lefty" Gwynne (October 5, 1912 – April 16, 2001) was a bantamweight professional boxer from Canada, who competed in the 1930s and won the gold medal at the 1932 Summer Olympics. He was still an amateur when he won the gold medal. Born in Toronto, Gwynne left school after grade 8, weighing only 65 lb (29.5 kg).
