Gulliver's Travels (1977 Film)
''Gulliver's Travels'' is a 1977 film based on the 1726 novel of the same name by Jonathan Swift. It mixed live action and animation, and starred Richard Harris in the title role. Plot The opening sequence in live action shows Gulliver announcing his intention to go to sea as a ship's surgeon, followed by scenes of a shipwreck. The remainder of the film has Harris on Lilliput and Blefuscu, with the tiny inhabitants created by animation. The film ends with a cliffhanger: Having escaped by boat from Lilliput, Gulliver encounters one of the giant inhabitants of Brobdingnag, but there is nothing more about his adventures there or in the other lands mentioned in the novel. Michael Hammond Bates (4 December 1920 – 11 January 1978) was a British actor of Anglo-Indian origin. He was best known for his roles as Chief Guard Barnes in '' A Clockwork Orange'' (1971), Cyril Blamire on ''Last of the Summer Wine'' (1973–1975), and Rangi Ram on '' It Ain't Half Hot Mum'' (1974–1977). Vladek Sheybal (born Władysław Rudolf Zbigniew Sheybal; 12 March 1923 – 16 October 1992) was a Polish character actor, singer and director of both television and stage productions. A member of Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop company, he originated the part of Geoffrey in Shelagh Delaney's play '' A Taste of Honey'', reprising the role in Tony Richardson's 1961 film version.
