A guide is a person who leads travelers, sportspeople, or tourists through unknown or unfamiliar locations. The term can also be applied to a person who leads others to more abstract goals such as knowledge or wisdom. Military explorers Lewis and Clark were hired by the United States Congress to explore the Pacific Northwest. They in turn hired the better qualified Native American Sacagawea to help them. Washington State Route 539
State Route 539 (SR 539, named the Guide Meridian) is a north–south state highway in the U.S. state of Washington. The highway travels through northwestern Whatcom County and connects Interstate 5 (I-5) in Bellingham with Lynden and the Canadian border near Langley, British Columbia. The Guide Meridian, named for the guide meridian that it follows while traveling due north–south, was originally a plank road constructed in the late 1880s. It was replaced with a gravel road in the 1910s and a paved highway later that decade by the Whatcom County government. The Guide Meridian was absorbed into the state highway system and designated as Secondary State Highway 1B (SSH 1B) in 1937, which was later supplemented with the creation of U.S. Route 99 Alternate in 1952. Guide River
The Guide River is a river in the Marlborough Region of New Zealand. It starts near Barefell Pass on the eastern side of the Rachel Range and flows south-east to join the Acheron River, which joins the Waiau Toa / Clarence River and eventually drains into the Pacific Ocean. The river was named by Sir Frederick Weld and his station manager in 1850, because it guided them from the Barefell Pass to the Acheron River (which they misidentified as the Clarence River). Guide is a village on the edge of Blackburn, in Lancashire, England. It is located south of the town centre, and the M65 Motorway passes around the south and east of the village, with Junction 5 situated immediately to the southwest of the village. People who are born and have lived in Guide all of their lives are known as "Guiders". The traditional village pub, The King Edward, is on the corner of the original crossroads. The village also includes a post office, a Cantonese restaurant, and a working men's club. A recreation ground features stone benches and flowers. Guide County
Guide County is a county in the east of Qinghai Province, China. It is under the administration of Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. In Tibetan it's known as Trika. In 2015 it had a population of 108,800, of which 37.8% Tibetans, and 16.1% other ethnic minorities. In 2018 the population was 110,900. It is located along the Yellow River, surrounded by hilly terrain on either side of the river valley. Guide was first established during the Yuan dynasty. The area became part of Ming Dynasty China in 1370. In 1953 it was placed under jurisdiction of Hainan prefecture.
