Guaíba (water Body)
Guaíba () is a major water body in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil. It is commonly referred to either as a " river" ( pt, Rio Guaíba) or as a " lake" ( pt, Lago Guaíba, link=no, label=none). The Jacuí River, the Sinos River, the Gravataí River and the Caí River empty into Guaíba from the north, which in its turn empties into the Lagoa dos Patos, the largest lagoon in South America further down south. The body of water covers in total. Both Porto Alegre, the capital and most populous city of Rio Grande do Sul, and Viamão lie on its eastern shore. The cities of Guaíba, Eldorado do Sul and Barra do Ribeiro lie opposite to Porto Alegre, on the western shore. Guaíba is navigable, and is connected to the Atlantic Ocean through Lagoa dos Patos and its outlet channel, located further south, near the city of Rio Grande. Porto Alegre
Porto Alegre (, , Brazilian ; ) is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Lagoa Dos Patos
Lagoa dos Patos (, , ; English: ''Ducks' Lagoon'') is the largest lagoon in Brazil and the largest coastal lagoon in South America. It is located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. It covers an area of , is long and has a maximum width of . Lagoa dos Patos is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a sandbar about wide. The Jacuí River, Jacuí-Guaíba River, Guaíba and Camaquã Rivers empty into it, while the navigable São Gonçalo Channel, which enters Lagoa dos Patos near the town of Pelotas, connects Lagoa dos Patos to Lagoa Mirim to the south. Rio Grande, Rio Grande Do Sul
Rio Grande (lit. "Great River") is a municipality (''município'') and one of the oldest cities in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. It was the state capital from 1835 to 1845. It is the most important port city in the state and has one of the most important maritime ports in Brazil. Guaíba
Guaíba is a city located in the Metropolitan Porto Alegre of Porto Alegre, in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. The city is on the shores of the Guaíba Lake. History In the current territory of the municipality of Guaíba there have been archeological discoveries of elements representing Guaraní culture, the oldest found in the region. These indigenous settlements would have been settled between 10000 and 6000 BCE (Laroque 2002). Viamão
Viamão is a city in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. In size it is the largest municipality in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre and the seventh most populous in the state. The origin of the name Viamão is controversial. The more common explanation is that atop the hills of the region it is possible to see the Guaíba River and its five inlets: Jacuí, Caí, Gravataí, Taquari and Rio dos Sinos, which form an open hand.
