Guatemala Women's National Football Team
The Guatemala women's national football team is controlled by the Federación Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala. They are one of the top women's national football teams in the Central American region along with Costa Rica, having won the 1999 UNCAF championship. History Following the creation of the first national women's league in 1997, a Guatemala women's national team was formed and in 1998 it began playing official international matches, the first of which was an 11–0 win against Honduras on 19 July 1998. After two more wins against El Salvador and Haiti, Guatemala advanced to the final qualification tournament to the 1999 Women's World Cup, where they finished fourth. In June 1999 the first UNCAF Women's Championship was celebrated in Guatemala City, where after wins against Honduras and Nicaragua and a draw against Costa Rica, the host team won the title by beating the latter 2–0 in the final, in front of 12,000 spectators at the Estadio Mateo Flores. The National Football Federation of Guatemala ( es, Federación Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala), known as Fedefut Guate or FENAFUTG, is the governing body of football in Guatemala. It organizes the football league, Liga Nacional de Guatemala, Primera División de Ascenso, Segunda División de Ascenso, Copa de Guatemala, the Guatemala national football team, and the Guatemala women's national football team. The 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament was an association football competition used to determine the two participants who would compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics. It was held at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, from January 19–29, 2012. Qualification Thirteen teams, eight from the Caribbean and five from Central America, competed to join automatic qualifiers Canada, Mexico and the United States in the eight-team final tournament. Caribbean qualification took place as two groups of four teams that competed from June 29 to July 9. Cuba and Haiti qualified from group A with seven points each, and were joined by the Dominican Republic from group B who won their group with nine points. The 2010 CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifying was the sixth edition of the CONCACAF W Championship, the quadrennial international women's football championship contested by the senior women's national teams of the member associations of CONCACAF, the regional governing body of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. The Association football competition at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games were set to start 21 July, although qualification took take place beforehand. All participants had to be born on or after 1 January 1989. On 13 July 2010 the organizing committee for the games (Comaz) announced that the event would not be held because CONCACAF had threatened to sanction countries that participated. Preliminary round The Preliminary Round was contested by some CONCACAF teams that determined the qualified teams to the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. Six teams were drawn into three match ups that were contested in a two-legged tie.
