List Of Dominican Submissions For The Academy Award For Best Foreign Language Film
The Dominican Republic is among the one-hundred countries that have submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Dominican Republic has submitted a total of 14 films since their debut in 1983, but they have never yet been nominated. Submissions Every year, each country is invited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to submit its best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. Following this, they vote via secret ballot to determine the five nominees for the award. This is a list of submissions to the 56th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 56th Academy Awards, twenty-six films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The Dominican Republic submitted a film for the first time. Rolando Barral (27 June 1939 – 21 January 2002) was a Cuban actor, television presenter and radio host. He appeared in dozens of telenovelas and television series for more than 40 years. He was the host of the long-running talk show ''El Show de Rolando Barral'', the first Spanish-language talk show in American television. He was often called "the Latino Johnny Carson". Marilyn Pupo
Marilyn Pupo (born November 23, 1950) is a Cuban-born Puerto Rican actress, singer and television show host. She is known for her stint as a television show host at Telemundo Puerto Rico's Noche de Gala alongside Eddie Miro, and for starring in the telenovela "El Idolo", also on that channel, alongside Jose Luis Rodriguez, during 1980 and 1981, as well as in other soap operas, such as "Maria Eugenia" and " Ambicion de Poder", where she starred alongside Martin Lantigua. In 1974, Pupo had a short, special participation in the Mexican telenovela, Mundo de juguete. In 1978, Pupo participated in the Spanish-Panamanian film, "May I Borrow Your Girl Tonight?".
