Grice
The grice was a breed of swine found in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and in Ireland. Culley, George(1807), ''Observations on Livestock'', pub Wilkie, Robinson et al, p 176/ref> It became extinct, surviving longest in the Shetland Isles, where it disappeared sometime between the middle of the 19th century and the 1930s. It was also known as the Highland, Hebridean or Irish pig. Etymology "Grice" is a Scots and northern English dialect word originally meaning "young pig" (compare the Scandinavian ''gris'', meaning "pig"). History Accounts from the early 19th century suggest the grice was an aggressive animal with small tusks, an arched back, and a coat of stiff, dark bristles over a wiry, woollen fleece. Highland examples were described as "a small, thin-formed animal, with bristles standing up from nose to tail...". Mike Grice
Michael John Grice (3 November 1931 – August 2002) was an English footballer who played as a winger. Career Born in Woking, Surrey, Grice began his career at Lowestoft Town before signing for Colchester United in 1952. He was selected to play for the Third Division South representative side in 1954–55. He joined West Ham United for £10,000 in 1955 and was a part of West Ham's promotion winning side of 1957–58. Grice joined Coventry City for the 1961–62 season. He made 38 Third Division appearances, scoring six goals, before moving back to Colchester the following year. He later returned to Lowestoft Town of the Eastern Counties League alongside former Hammer Albert Foan. Edwin Le Grice
Frederick Edwin Le Grice was an Anglican priest in the latter part of the 20th century. He was born on 14 December 1911 at Harleston, Norfolk and educated at Queens' College, Cambridge. Ordained in 1936 he began his career with curacies in Leeds and Paignton. Charles Valentine Le Grice
Charles Valentine Le Grice (1773–1858) was an Anglican priest, an associate of Charles Lamb and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, a squib writer, and a translator of Longus. Life Le Grice was born in Bury St. Edmunds to a clergyman father Charles Le Grice on 14 February 1773. Little is known of Le Grice's early life but he was enrolled in Christ's Hospital some time around 1780 where he became a friend of other famous students including Leigh Hunt, Charles Lamb, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. His brother, Samuel Le Grice was also a classmate of Charles Lamb and was known to be a great comfort to Lamb after the murder of his mother at the hands of his sister Mary. Upon leaving Christ's Hospital as a Senior Grecian he passed on to Trinity College, Cambridge. Marie Grice Young (January 5, 1876 – July 27, 1959) was an American woman who survived the sinking of RMS ''Titanic''. Early life Marie Grice Young was born on January 5, 1876, the daughter of Samuel Grice Young and Margaret Brown (Wilson) Young. She belonged to a political upper-class family in Washington, and was the niece-in-law of Alexander Robey Shepherd, who had married her aunt, Mary Grice Young. Warren Grice Elliott (March 22, 1848 – September 17, 1906) was president of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad starting in 1902. Ryan Grice-Mullen (born September 12, 1986) is a former gridiron football wide receiver. He was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played college football at Hawaii. Donald Matthew Grice (born July 29, 1981) is an American police officer and retired mixed martial artist. He was in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, fighting in the featherweight division before suffering a traumatic brain injury in a traffic accident in Shawnee, Oklahoma on September 8, 2013.
