Grenfell Railway Station
The Grenfell railway station is a heritage-listed closed railway station located on the Koorawatha-Grenfell railway line in Grenfell in the Weddin Shire of New South Wales, Australia. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Description The heritage-listed complex includes a type 16 station building, built in the Pioneer sub-type 2 and class A6 design, that was completed in 1901. A goods shed, or side shed, was also completed in 1901. The platform face is timber with consolidated earth. The turntable is a Sellers 1072 type. The railway station opened on . Passenger services on the Grenfell railway line ceased in 1974. The station is closed and has been restored by local organisations. The goods shed is now used as a Men's shed, a place for local men to get together. Grenfell Railway Line
The Grenfell railway line is a partly closed railway line in New South Wales, Australia. It branches from the Blayney–Demondrille railway line at the town of Koorawatha. The line opened in 1901, and closed between Greenethorpe and at the Grenfell railway station in 1991. From the opening, until the demise of steam, there were two locations where locomotives could obtain water, Koorawatha and Grenfell. The stand at Grenfell was supplied from a purpose-built dam some away. The stand eventually collapsed at 5:40pm on 9 February 2018. The dam, Company Dam, still remains and now supplies irrigation water to a local sporting ground. Grain services operate between Koorawatha and Greenethorpe. Passenger services operated until 1974. The line is owned by the NSW government, but in 2004 the Australian Rail Track Corporation became responsible for co-ordinating operations over the line. Grenfell, New South Wales
Grenfell is a town in Weddin Shire in the Central West of New South Wales, Australia. It is west of Sydney. It is close to Forbes, Cowra and Young. At the 2011 census, Grenfell had a population of 1,996. The town is served daily by connecting NSW TrainLink services from Sydney via Bathurst and Lithgow. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments. The register is administered by the Heritage Council of NSW via Heritage NSW, a division of the Government of New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment. The register was created in 1999 and includes items protected by heritage schedules that relate to the State, and to regional and to local environmental plans. Men's Shed
Men's sheds or community sheds are non-profit local organisations that provide a space for craftwork and social interaction. The movement originated in Australia around the 1980s as a way to improve the health and wellbeing of older men. However some have expanded their remit to anyone regardless of age or gender, and have similar aims and functions to hackerspaces. There are over 900 located across Australia, with thousands of active members. Men's sheds can also be found in the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, United States, Canada, Finland, New Zealand and Greece.
