Greendale, New South Wales
Greendale is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. History Greendale was originally home to the Mulgoa tribe of the Darug people. The first British explorer to visit the area was botanist George Caley in 1800. A number of land grants were made in the area in 1811, one of which was to a Mary Birch who named her property ''Greendale''. Another 1811 grant was made to Ellis Bent who was the colony's judge-advocate. Bents Basin, a recreational area on the Nepean River at Greendale is named after him. The land was mainly used for wheat farming until 1861 when wheat rust infected the entire crop. The local farmers tried other crops unsuccessfully and gradually moved to other pastoral areas, effectively killing off the town that had grown up in the area. By 1929, the bakery, post office, school and churches had all closed down. Greendale High School is a four-year public high school in Greendale, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. Part of the Greendale School District, it serves students in grades 9 through 12. Greendale is an affluent suburb in eastern Harare, Zimbabwe noted for its residents of Shona and Indian descent. History A Certificate of Occupation and residence was granted to a German immigrant named, George Haupt, and Greendale Farm was transferred to Haupt and Henry Spreaker trading as Haupt and Co. on December 17, 1892. Haupt, an engineer from the Rhine Valley, was one of the first people to follow the occupation forces into the country. It is not known how the name, Greendale came about, but 1890 saw considerable rainfall (Father Hartmann measured it at 63 inches, or about twice our normal mean average of 850mm a year) – a record that stood until the 2008-2009 rain season. The Greendale Mall was an enclosed shopping mall located near the intersection of Interstates 290 and 190 in Worcester, Massachusetts, United States. The anchors were Best Buy, Big Lots, DSW, and a combination of TJ Maxx and HomeGoods. History The mall first opened in 1982, anchored by Lechmere and Marshalls stores. TJ Maxx 'N More was later added in the late 1990s and it later became a TJ Maxx and HomeGoods combo store. Lechmere closed in 1997 and later became Best Buy.
