The Greens, the Party of Normal People ( hu, Zöldek, a Normális Emberek Pártja; ZÖLDEK), also known mostly by its shortened form Green Party, is the first green political party in Hungary and also in post-communist countries, formed on 19 November 1989 following the end of communism. History Several former active members of the Duna Kör had participated in the foundation of the Green Party of Hungary ( hu, Magyarországi Zöld Párt; MZP) in Budapest on 19 November 1989. The first branches had already established in Debrecen (23 October) and Szeged (8 November). The national congress elected a 15-member national board and 7-member presidency (its members were including Gábor Hraskó and Erzsébet Schmuck). Paks
Paks is a small town in Tolna county, in the south of Hungary, on the right bank of the Danube River, 100 km south of Budapest. Paks as a former agricultural settlement is now the home of the only Hungarian nuclear power plant, which provides about 40% of the country's electricity consumption. History The settlement was already inhabited in ancient times. It has played a role in the Ottoman Empire times and during Rákóczi's War of Independence. The Centre Party ( hu, Centrumpárt) was a centrist political party in Hungary. History The Centre Party came into being in 2001, with the cooperation of the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP), the Hungarian Democratic People's Party (MDNP), the Alliance of Green Democrats (ZDSZ) and Third Way for Hungary (HOM). György Droppa
György Droppa (born 17 September 1947) is a Hungarian environmentalist, politician and economist, who served as leader of several extra-parliamentary green political parties since the 1990s. Early life After finishing university studies, Droppa started his career in the catering industry, working for Panonnia, Danubius and Olimpia hotels. In 1982, he opened his first own restaurant (Fondue Bar) at the Keleti Károly St. which became a popular meeting place among the "democratic opposition" members who criticized the Communist regime. Droppa has enabled to extension of samizdat publications in his restaurant. The Green Alternative ( hu, Zöld Alternatíva; ZA), later Green Alternative – Alliance of Greens in Hungary, was a green political party in Hungary between 1993 and 2000.
