Green (Steve Hillage Album)
Green is the fourth studio album by British progressive rock musician Steve Hillage. Written in spring 1977 at the same time as his previous album, the funk-inflected ''Motivation Radio'' (1977), ''Green'' was originally going to be released as ''The Green Album'' as a companion to ''The Red Album'' (the originally intended name for ''Motivation Radio''). However, this plan was dropped and after a US tour in late 1977, ''Green'' was recorded alone, primarily in Dorking, Surrey, and in London. Produced and engineered by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, ''Green'' features science fiction themes and explores electronic music, especially of a dance music bent, continuing the dance themes of ''Motivation Radio''. Most of the guitar and some of the keyboard parts on ''Green'' were played by Hillage with a Roland GR 500–an early guitar synthesizer. Steve Hillage
Stephen Simpson Hillage (born 2 August 1951) is an English musician, best known as a guitarist. He is associated with the Canterbury scene and has worked in experimental domains since the late 1960s. Besides his solo sound recording and reproduction, recordings he has been a member of Khan (band), Khan, Gong (band), Gong and System 7 (band), System 7. History Bands 1968–75 Hillage was born in Chingford, which was then in Essex but is now part of Greater London. Whilst still at school, he joined his first band, a blues rock band called Uriel (band), Uriel, with Dave Stewart (keyboardist), Dave Stewart, Mont Campbell and Clive Brooks. The band split up in 1968 with the other members going on to form Egg (band), Egg, but they briefly re-united under assumed names to record the album ''Arzachel (band), Arzachel'' in 1969. The In the Flesh Tour, also known as the Animals Tour, was a concert tour by the English rock band Pink Floyd in support of their 1977 album ''Animals''. It was divided in two legs: one in Europe and another in North America. The tour featured large inflatable puppets, as well as a pyrotechnic "waterfall", and one of the biggest and most elaborate stages to date, including umbrella-like canopies that would rise from the stage to protect the band from the elements. This was the only tour in which Pink Floyd played songs from ''Animals'' live. Pink Floyd would never again play songs from ''Animals'' during their tours, but the flying pig still appeared with different designs. ''The Rainbow'' is a novel by British author D. H. Lawrence, first published by Methuen & Co. in 1915. Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century. It de-emphasizes melody and chord progressions and focuses on a strong rhythmic groove of a bassline played by an electric bassist and a drum part played by a percussionist, often at slower tempos than other popular music. Funk typically consists of a complex percussive groove with rhythm instruments playing interlocking grooves that create a "hypnotic" and "danceable" feel. Tonto's Expanding Head Band was a British-American electronic music duo consisting of Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff. Despite releasing only two albums in the early 1970s, the duo were influential in the development of electronic music and helped bring the synthesizer to the mainstream through session and production work for other musicians (most notably Stevie Wonder) and extensive commercial advertising work. Electric Light Orchestra
The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1970 by songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood with drummer Bev Bevan.
