Catholic Church In Greece
The Catholic Church in Greece is part of the worldwide Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope in Rome. Indigenous Roman Catholic Greeks numbered about 50,000-70,000 in 2022 and were a religious and not an ethnic minority. Most of them are a remnant of Republic of Venice, Venetian and Republic of Genoa, Genoese Latinokratia, rule in southern Greece and many Greek islands (in both the Aegean Sea, Aegean and Ionian Islands under Venetian rule, Ionian seas) from the early 13th until the late 18th century, Greeks who converted to Catholicism or descendants of the thousands of Kingdom of Bavaria, Bavarians that came to Greece in the 1830s as soldiers and civil administrators, accompanying Otto of Greece, King Otto. Since the early 1990s however, the num ...

Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church
The Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church, also known in the United States as the Byzantine Catholic Church, is a '' sui iuris'' (autonomous) Eastern Catholic particular church based in Eastern Europe and North America that is part of the worldwide Catholic Church and is in full communion with the Holy See. It uses the Byzantine Rite for its liturgies, laws, and cultural identity. The Church originated at the Union of Uzhhorod in 1646, when Orthodox East Slavs with a Rusyn identity in the Carpathian Mountains entered into communion with the Pope. The Church does not have a unified structure. Its numerically largest jurisdiction is in Europe, the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo, which reemerged in Ukraine after having been suppressed by the Soviet Union. There is also the Apostolic Exarchate of the Greek Catholic Church in the Czech Republic, founded in 1996. Both of them are exempt territories immediately subject to the Holy See. The Metropolis of Pittsburgh is the Chu ...

Ordinariate For Eastern Catholic Faithful
An ordinariate for the faithful of Eastern rite is a geographical ecclesiastical structure for Eastern Catholic communities in areas where no eparchy of their own particular Church has been established. This structure was introduced by the apostolic letter ''Officium supremi Apostolatus'' of 15 July 1912.''Annuario Pontificio 2012'' (Libreria Editrice Vaticana 2008 ), p. 1811 In the ''Annuario Pontificio'' the eight existing ordinariates of this kind are listed together with the fifteen (pre-diocesan) apostolic exarchates. Of these ordinariates, four (in Argentina, Brazil, France and Poland) are generically for all Eastern Catholics who lack a 'proper' diocesan jurisdiction of their own rite in the particular country and who are therefore entrusted to the care of a Latin Archbishop in the country. The one in Austria is for Catholics belonging to any of the fourteen particular Churches that use the Byzantine Rite. The other three (Ex-Soviet 'Eastern Europe', Greece and Romania) ...

Georgian Byzantine-Rite Catholics
Georgian Byzantine Rite Catholics, or members of the Georgian Greek Catholic Church, are Catholics from the Georgian people who practice the Byzantine Rite in Old Georgian, which is also the liturgical language of the Georgian Orthodox Church. History During the 19th century, when almost all Georgian Catholics were of the Roman or Armenian Rites, many wished to attend the Byzantine Rite in Old Georgian, as is traditional in the Georgian Orthodox Church. The House of Romanov, in addition to ordering the forced Russification of the Georgian people and of their Church, viewed and treated the Eastern Catholic Churches, with the grudging exception of the Armenian Catholic Church, as illegal and even treasonous organizations. Accordingly, Georgian people who wished to become Catholics overwhelmingly joined the Armenian Catholic Diocese of Artvin, which had been set up in Russian Transcaucasia. In 1861, in Istanbul, former Mekhitarist priest Fr. Peter Kharischirashvili (Pétre Kharis ...
