Jars Of Clay (album)
''Jars of Clay'' is the first full-length studio album by Christian rock group Jars of Clay. It was released on October 24, 1995, by Essential Records. The album was released to commercial and critical acclaim, becoming one of the few Christian albums in the mid-1990s to achieve platinum status. Overview Jars of Clay's eponymous first full-length album is characterized by a combination of drum loops and acoustic guitar strumming that would become an early trademark of the band. Strings are also used prominently in most of the songs. The album features sonic influences as diverse as Gregorian chants, mandolin, and gothic layered vocals. The album was mostly self-produced, with the exception of "Liquid" and "Flood" which were produced by King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew. Several tracks from this album were hits on Christian radio, and as a result they have been staples of the band's live concerts ever since. The song "Flood" became an unexpected hit on mainstream pop and ...

God Will Lift Up Your Head
"Give to the Winds Thy Fears" is a traditional Christian hymn in short metre with words written by John Wesley. History and description Its first verse is: It is one of two hymns that Wesley published in 1739 that he had translated from "Befiehl du deine Wege", a longer 1653 hymn by German hymnwriter Paul Gerhardt, the other being "Commit thou all Thy Griefs". The latter has 8 out of the original 12 verses by Gerhardt, and "Give" has 4 verses. Wesley encountered Gerhardt's hymn sung by Moravians on his travels in the United States, and compiled it into the hymnal that he compiled for the people in Georgia where he lived for a while. In his diary for 1737-05-07 he records "translated six hymns from the German while on a journey to another plantation". In hymnals such as the U.S. ''Armed Forces Hymnal'' (1959) and ''The Presbyterian Hymnal'' (1990) it is set to the tune ''St Bride'' composed by Samuel Howard. The Woman's Christian Temperance Union adopted the hymn as its "Crusade ...

Who We Are Instead
''Who We Are Instead'' is the fifth full-length studio album recorded by Christian rock band Jars of Clay and produced by Mitch Dane. It was released in 2003 by Essential Records. Representing their most acoustic-based since their first disc, ''Who We Are Instead'' is the band's most relaxed-sounding material to date. The stripped-down sound accompanied a more direct focus on their spirituality, with gospel influences apparent in some of the songs and the names of God and Jesus being more explicitly mentioned throughout the disc. Guitarist Steve Mason proved to be rather versatile on this album, with several songs featuring either the lap steel or mandolin. The songs " Show You Love" and " Sunny Days", two of the more upbeat songs on a generally contemplative and reflective album, were released as singles. The album features two covers: The 1974 song " Lonely People" by America, and the 1971 composition "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet" by Gavin Bryars. The song "Amazing Gra ...

The Eleventh Hour (Jars Of Clay Album)
''The Eleventh Hour'' is the fourth full-length studio album by the band Jars of Clay. It was released in 2002 by Essential Records and marked the band's first attempt at producing a full album by themselves. Overview When writing the group's fourth album, Jars of Clay enlisted Dennis Herring, who produced the band's ''If I Left the Zoo'' album, to produce, but due to scheduling difficulties, Herring decided to pull out of the project, leading to the band's first attempt at producing by themselves. Though not initially intending to produce the album themselves, the group took on this and many other aspects of putting the album together they had not before, such as artwork and even filming ''Ten:Thirty: The Making of The Eleventh Hour'' video. ''The Eleventh Hour'' is considered a return to Jars of Clay's original sound, though in truth it bore stylistic similarities to all three of the albums preceding it, and continued the trend of favoring poetic lyrics over straightforwardl ...

If I Left The Zoo
''If I Left the Zoo'' is the third full-length studio album of the band Jars of Clay. It was released November 9, 1999, by Essential Records. Overview The band's third album brought about another stylistic shift, away from the lush sound of ''Much Afraid'' and into more of a raw and quirky pop/rock sound with occasional folk overtones. Keyboard player Charlie Lowell was featured much more prominently on this album. Due to the influence of producer Dennis Herring and drummer Ben Mize, this album had more of a Counting Crows influence. This album produced several Christian radio singles, most notably "Unforgetful You", which also appeared in the soundtrack to the 1999 film ''Drive Me Crazy''. Album title The band found a picture in a stock book of an elephant whom they have affectionately named 'Agnes. They bought the picture for the album cover and then had to come up with a title. Before landing on the name ''If I Left the Zoo'', the band tried working the titles ''Already, No ...

Frail (Jars Of Clay Song)
"Frail" is a song written and performed by Christian rock band Jars of Clay. It has appeared on many recordings by the group and lends its name to their debut demo release, '' Frail,'' from 1994. The song has never been released as a single. Background "Frail" was initially the college submission entry for Stephen Mason, guitarist for Jars of Clay. As written by Mason, the song was purely instrumental. After creating Jars of Clay with singer Dan Haseltine and pianist Charlie Lowell, Mason put forward the song to the group. It was then re-recorded for the group's demo, ''Frail,'' in 1994, and was chosen as the demo's title track. In 1995, the band recorded their highly successful debut full-length studio album, '' Jars of Clay.'' "Frail" was not chosen to be included on the album, however. Like the song "Fade to Grey," it was added to their next studio album, ''Much Afraid,'' in 1997. For the re-recording, lyrics were written by the group, which by this time included second guit ...

Much Afraid
''Much Afraid'' is the second studio album by American Christian rock band Jars of Clay. It was released in 1997 by Essential Records. Following the charting success of the band's debut album, ''Much Afraid'' was moderately successful, but was unable to achieve the level of its predecessor. Background The title is a reference to Hannah Hurnard's 1955 novel '' Hinds' Feet on High Places'', whose main character was named Much Afraid. The album marked various musical and lyrical differences to its predecessor. "Fade to Grey" and " Frail" were both previously from the group's demo recording '' Frail'' in 1994. All other tracks from that demo were recorded for the debut album '' Jars of Clay'' in 1995. Both songs were changed significantly, especially "Frail", which was previously an instrumental piece and now contained lyrics. Notably, these songs were two of the first songs written by Jars of Clay. The album features the multi-instrumentalist Greg Wells, who went on to produ ...
