Great War Remembrance Race
The Great War Remembrance Race was a European single-day cycle race to be held annually from 2018 which passed through the Belgian province of West Flanders, organized by Flanders Classics and the organizers of Gent–Wevelgem as a 1.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. The inaugural edition marked the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and was held on 24 August 2018 and won by Mihkel Räim Mihkel Räim (born 3 July 1993) is an Estonian cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Continental team ATT Investments in Czech Republic.In October 2020, he was named in the startlist for the 2020 Vuelta a España. He is four time Estonian national .... Further editions were intended to safeguard continuing awareness of this historic war. Future editions of the race were canceled in June, 2019. Gent–Wevelgem
Gent–Wevelgem, officially Gent–Wevelgem – In Flanders Fields, is a road bicycle racing, road cycling race in Belgium, held annually since 1934. It is one of the classic cycle races, classic races part of the Flemish Cycling Week, run in late March on the last Sunday before the Tour of Flanders. Although the event is often called a ''cycling sprinter, sprinters classic'' due to its flat finishing terrain, its early-season date means riders are often tested by wind and rain, as well as several climbs, including two ascents of the steep and fully cobbled Kemmelberg. As a result, few editions of Gent–Wevelgem actually end in a bunch sprint – often the winner comes from a small group of escapees. In 2005 the race was included in the inaugural UCI ProTour and in 2011 in its successor, the UCI World Tour. Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on Road surface, paved roads. Road racing is the most popular professional sport, professional form of bicycle racing, in terms of numbers of competitors, events and spectators. UCI Race Classifications
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world's governing body in the sport of bicycle racing, classifies races according to a rating scale. The rating is represented by a code made of two or three parts and indicates both the type or style of race (the first part), and its importance or difficulty (the second and third parts, lower being harder). The first part can be an integer or an abbreviation, and the second part, when present, are usually integers. Both parts are separated by a period or decimal point (.). A higher rated race will result in the successful riders receiving more world ranking points. The UCI Continental Circuits are a series of road bicycle racing competitions which were introduced in 2005 by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to expand cycling around the world.
