The United Kingdom, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland competed as Great Britain at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, United States. Medallists Alain Baxter came third in the Men's slalom but was subsequently disqualified for use of a stimulant. Baxter's claim that a mix up in the ingredients of the same branded cold medication between the UK and the US was the cause of the ingestion of the stimulant was accepted, and as a result he received the minimum ban of 3 months. Nicola Minichiello
Nicola Minichiello (born Nicola Gautier on 21 March 1978) is a retired British bobsledder who competed between 2001 and 2011. She won two medals in the two-woman event at the FIBT World Championships, winning a silver in 2005 and making history with a gold in 2009 partnering Gillian Cooke, to become the first British female bobsleigh driver to win a World Championships. Competing in three Winter Olympics, Minichiello earned her best finish of ninth in the two-woman event at Turin in 2006. This was also the best ever Olympic result by a GB women’s bobsleigh team. Cheryl Done
Cheryl Done (born 25 September 1970) is a British bobsledder. She competed in the two woman event at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Biography Done was born in Bucklow, Cheshire in 1970, before moving to Timperley, and later to Bath. In 1985, at the under-15 level, Done set a new British record in the pentathlon. Done worked for the Royal Air Force (RAF) as an instructor in physical education, and started competing in bobsleigh in 1995. In one of her earliest races for the British team, in St. Moritz, Done crashed and suffered a concussion. In the two-woman event at the 2002 Winter Olympics, Done and team-mate Nicola Minichiello finished in twelfth place. Competing in two Winter Olympics (1998 and 2002), he won a bronze medal in the four-man event at Nagano in 1998, with a time of 2 minutes, 40.06 seconds. Scott Rider (born 22 September 1977) is a British bobsledder, shot putter and Highland games competitor. Biography Rider joined the British bobsleigh team in 2000, and he competed in the four man event at the 2002 Winter Olympics, where he and his team-mates finished 11th. In shot putting, Rider represented England at three Commonwealth Games, in 2006, 2010 and 2014, finishing in the top ten in all three tournaments.
