Graustark (1925 Film)
''Graustark'' is a 1925 American silent romantic adventure film produced by Dimitri Buchowetzki for Norma Talmadge Productions and distributed by First National. It is based on the novel ''Graustark'' by George Barr McCutcheon. It was directed by Dimitri Buchowetzki with Norma Talmadge as the leading woman. The novel was previously filmed under the same title in 1915; '' Truxton King'' (1923) is based on one of the sequel novels. Plot As described in a film magazine reviews, Princess Yetive meets Lorry while she is traveling in America under an assumed name. She leaves him in New York City when a friend, Prince Gabriel, tells her that her father is dying. Having received no message of good-bye, Lorry is concerned about her; and starts out to find her. In Graustark, when the American Ambassador takes him to a court ball, he recognizes the young woman as the Princess. Dimitri Buchowetzki
Dimitri Buchowetzki (1885–1932) born Dmitry Savelyevych Bukhovecky was a Russian film director, screenwriter, and actor in Germany, Sweden, United States, United Kingdom, and France. Life and career Initially Buchowetzki studied law. Later he starred in a number of silent films, mostly playing antagonistic characters, including Yakov Protazanov’s melodramas ''Giant of the Spirit'' (1918) and ''Maidservant Jenny'' (1918). He played the hussar officer Minski in Aleksandr Ivanovski’s Pushkin adaptation ''The Stationmaster'' (1918) and appeared in the title role of Aleksandr Razumnyi’s pro-Bolshevik film ''Comrade Abram'' (1919). In 1919, Buchowetzki immigrated to Germany, via Poland, where he directed his most artistic works: the expressionistic Fedor Dostoevsky adaptation ''The Brothers Karamazov'' (1921), the historical drama ''Danton'' (1921, based on Georg Büchner’s play), and '' Othello'' (1922), all starring Emil Jannings. Albert Gran
Albert Gran (August 4, 1862 – December 16, 1932) was a Norwegian-born American stage and film actor. He is most associated with his appearance in drama and light comedy films. Biography Albert Gran was born in Bergen, Norway. He was the son of Albert Nicolai Gran (1838-1915) and Auguste Schwarting (1844-1910). He emigrated to the United States during 1914. Gran launched his screen career in 1916. He appeared as a character actor in 44 films between 1916 and 1933. Wanda Hawley (born Selma Wanda Pittack; July 30, 1895 – March 18, 1963) was an American actress during the silent film era. She entered the theatrical profession with an amateur group in Seattle, and later toured the United States and Canada as a singer. She initially began in films acting with the likes of William Farnum, William S. Hart, Tom Mix, Douglas Fairbanks, and others. She co-starred with Rudolph Valentino in the 1922 ''The Young Rajah'', and rose to stardom in a number of Cecil B. DeMille's and director Sam Wood's films.
