Grand Prix National De L'architecture
The Grand prix national de l'architecture ("Grand National Prize of Architecture") is a French prize awarded by a jury of twenty persons under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Culture to an architect, or an architectural firm, for recognition of an outstanding contribution to architecture. Established in 1975 and relaunched in 2004, it is the highest French award in architecture. It comes with a monetary prize of 10,000 euros. Gérard Thurnauer (September 24, 1926 – December 22, 2014) was a French architect and a founding member of the Atelier de Montrouge, an architectural and urban planning studio. Biography Gérard Thurnauer was born in Paris to a Jewish father and a pastor's daughter. At age 15, he joined the French resistance. He studied at the École des Beaux-arts de Paris and received the ''prix du meilleur diplôme'' from his alma mater alongside Pierre Riboulet and Jean-Louis Véret in 1952. Adrien Fainsilber (15 June 1932 – 11 February 2023) was a French architect and urbanist. Biography Born in Le Nouvion-en-Thiérache on 15 June 1932, Fainsilber graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1960 and subsequently worked for Hideo Sasaki in Watertown, Massachusetts. Upon his return to France, he became director of studies at the and participated in the first . In 1970, Fainsilber founded his own architectural agency in Villetaneuse after winning a competition alongside Högna Sigurðardóttir. Michel Andrault
Michel Andrault (17 December 1926 – 5 April 2020) was a French architect. Biography Andrault was the son of a salesman and a seamstress. He was bedridden for two years due to tuberculosis. He entered the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After graduating in 1955, Andrault joined his fellow student, Pierre Parat, in business in 1957. The pair won a competition for the construction of the Basilica Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Lacrime in Siracusa in Sicily. The controversial and modern design gained them notoriety, and they were contacted by the Caisse des dépôts et consignations for the construction of housing, working with Bouygues. Claude Vasconi
Claude Vasconi (24 June 1940 - 8 December 2009) was a French architect. Vasconi was born in Rosheim, and was educated at the ''Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et de l'Industrie'' in Strasbourg. In 1964, he set up office in Paris. After designing two key projects as a young architect, Forum des Halles in the centre of Paris and the building of the Préfecture in Cergy-Pontoise, he became one of the most sought-after architects in France, with major projects in Montpellier, Strasbourg and Saint-Nazaire. He died in Paris, aged 69. Claude Vasconi has been credited as the pioneer proponent of the concept of "Angelina"-style cellular steel beams.
