Grand Prix Du Mardi Gras
The Grand Prix du Mardi Gras was an IMSA GT Championship street race held in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1991, 1992 and 1995. The 1991 IMSA GTP/Lights race was held on June 16, 1991 using a circuit near the Mississippi River. The winner of 81 lap race was Wayne Taylor with Geoff Brabham finishing second and Jeff Purner and Tim McAdam finishing tied for 3rd place. On June 14, 1992, the IMSA GTP/Lights street race was moved to a circuit around the Louisiana Superdome. The winner of 89 lap race was Juan Fangio II with Geoff Brabham and P.J. Jones finishing 2nd and 3rd. In 1995, the Grand Prix du Mardi Gras IMSA GTS-2 street race was run on the circuit around the Louisiana Superdome on October 8. The winner of the 29 lap race was Bill Auberlen with Kevin Buckler and Jorge Trejos finishing 2nd and 3rd. Bill Auberlen
Bill Auberlen (born October 12, 1968) is an American factory race car driver known for his affiliation with BMW, driving cars made and run by the famous German marque for a number of years. Auberlen currently competes for Turner Motorsport in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and Michelin Pilot Challenge. He is the winningest driver in IMSA history. Motorsports career and affiliation with BMW Auberlen was born in Redondo Beach, California, located in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and attended Rolling Hills High School. His career started in the 1970s in motocross, with Auberlen moving to IMSA GTU in 1987. He stayed there until 1997, his last year resulting in him winning the championship. Charles Darin Brassfield (born September 16, 1963) is a former American racing driver from Los Gatos, California. He attempted to make his CART Championship Car debut in 1985 at the season ender in Miami driving for Wysard Racing. However, he failed to qualify. He returned to sports car racing to gain more experience. He returned to CART for two races at the end of the 1988 season and made his first start at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course but was knocked out by engine failure after 30 laps. He also drove at Laguna Seca Raceway a month later but suffered a broken gearbox 31 laps in. He subsequently returned to sports cars and was a multiple race winner in the IMSA GT Championship. The Kudzu DG-2 is an IMSA GTP Lights sports prototype race car, designed, developed and built by American racing driver Jim Downing, to compete in sports car racing, between 1992 and 1999. IMSA GT was a sports car racing series organized by International Motor Sports Association. Races took place primarily in the United States, and occasionally in Canada. The 1995 Exxon World Sports Car Championship and Supreme GT Series seasons were the 25th season of the IMSA GT Championship. It consisted of open-cockpit prototypes referred to as the World Sports Car (WSC) class and Grand Tourer-style racing cars divided into GTS-1 and GTS-2 classes. It began February 4, 1995, and ended October 8, 1995, after eleven rounds. Riley & Scott Mk III
The Riley & Scott Mark III (Mk III) was a sports prototype auto racing car developed by Bob Riley, Bill Riley, and Mark Scott of Riley & Scott Cars Inc. Initially designed in 1993, the car was created for the World Sports Car (WSC) category which was to debut in the North American IMSA GT Championship during their 1994 season. It was not until 1995 that the first Mk III was completed, but the construction of further cars allowed a variety of teams to campaign in several North American and European racing series, including competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. James Weaver (racing Driver)
James Weaver (born 4 March 1955 in London) is a British former racing driver. In 1978 Weaver started racing in Formula Ford with Scorpion Racing School. He then began his professional career in the European F3. In 1982 he was the Eddie Jordan Racing team's primary driver, but in 1983 he returned to the European F3. He debuted in the British Touring Car Championship in 1989 at the Oulton Park circuit in March that year. He finished second overall in the British Touring Car Championship that year behind the winner John Cleland. He won Class B that year. In 1987, Weaver joined Dyson Racing, for whom he drove for twenty years. He resulted IMSA GT Championship runner-up in 1995, won the 1998 United States Road Racing Championship and the 2000 and 2001 Rolex Sports Car Series, and collected two vice-championships in the 2004 and 2006 American Le Mans Series.
