Grand Prix D'Automne
The Grand Prix d'Automne is a Group 1 hurdle race in France which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Auteuil over a distance of 4,800 metres (about 3 miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late October or early November. History The race was first run in 1929 as an autumn counterpart to the Grand Prix du Printemps, a handicap race run at the same course in spring. The Grand Prix d'Automne, however, was a weight-for-age event until becoming a handicap in 1940 before reverting to weight-for-age in 1990. Originally run over 3,800 metres race has been run over a variety of distances. The race was run over 4100 metres between 1930 and 1938, 4000 metres from 1940 to 1942, 4500 metres from 1943 to 1967, 4600 metres in 1968, 4300 metres in 1969, 4100 metres from 1970 to 1990 and 4800 metres since 1991. The Auteuil Hippodrome is a horse racing venue on Route des Lacs in the Bois de Boulogne, Paris, France. The 33-hectare (82-acre) race course opened November 1, 1873. France Galop
France Galop is the governing body of flat and steeplechase horse racing in France. It was founded on May 3, 1995, as the result of the amalgamation of four different industry organizations. Prominent owner/breeder Jean-Luc Lagardère was elected the organization's first president. As of 2007 France Galop has a membership of more than 9,500 horse owners, trainers, jockeys, breeders, and officials. The organization is run by a 12-member board of directors and an oversight committee of fifty representatives. Each year, France Galop organizes more than 6,500 races at racetracks throughout France and operates Longchamp Racecourse, Auteuil, and the Saint-Cloud Racecourse. Willie Mullins
William Peter Mullins (born 15 September 1956) is an Irish racehorse trainer and former jockey. Career He commenced racehorse training in 1988 having previously worked as an assistant to his father Paddy Mullins and Jim Bolger. Willie is a former six times amateur champion jockey in Ireland, winning the 1983 Aintree Fox Hunters' Chase on Atha Cliath and the 1996 Cheltenham Bumper on Wither Or Which. Ruby Walsh
Rupert Walsh (born 14 May 1979 in Kill, County Kildare, Ireland) is an Irish former jockey. He is the second child, and eldest son, of former champion amateur jockey Ted Walsh and his wife Helen. Walsh is the third most prolific winner in British and Irish jump racing history behind only Sir Anthony McCoy and Richard Johnson. Career Showing talent from an early age, Walsh won the Irish amateur title twice, in 1996/97 (aged 18) and 1997/98, before turning professional. Paul Frank Nicholls (born 17 April 1962) is a British National Hunt horse trainer with stables at Ditcheat, Somerset. Zarkandar (foaled 20 April 2007) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who competed in National Hunt races. A half-brother to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Zarkava he won one of his three Flat racing, flat races before being gelded and becoming a specialist Hurdling (horse race), hurdler.
