Grand Calais Terres et Mers (before 2017: ''Communauté d'agglomération du Calaisis'') is an agglomeration community created on 28 December 2000 and located in the Pas-de-Calais ''département'', in northern France. It was expanded with four communes from the Communauté de communes des Pays d'Opale on 1 December 2019. Its area is 184.1 km2. Pihen-lès-Guînes ( vls, Pittem, lang) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography Pihen-lès-Guînes is located 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Calais, at the junction of the D243 and D244 roads. Pihen station has rail connections to Calais and Boulogne-sur-Mer. History The name of Pihen appeared for the first time in the founding charter of the abbey of Andres in 1084, in the form of ''Pithem'', from the Germanic ''pit'' (wells ) + ''Heim'' (home, village), which became Pihen in the Calaisis and Boulonnais dialect, but -hem elsewhere. Pihem (near to Wizernes) is almost the same as Pihen, which led to so many errors with the mail that the commune decided to add ‘lès-Guînes’ to its name in 1923. Marck (; ) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography Marck is a farming and light industrial town located 6 km east of Calais, at the junction of the D940 and D248 roads. The A26 autoroute (‘autoroute des Anglais’) passes through the commune and the Louis Blériot airport is in the middle of the commune. Hames-Boucres () is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography A village located 6 miles (9 km) southwest of Calais, at the junction of the D215 and D231E2. History The commune was created from the two former parishes of Hames and Boucres in 1819. The two parish churches were located almost opposite each other and separated only by a street. The church of Hames was demolished during the Revolution. The English seized the castle in the 14th century, but it was retaken by Francis, Duke of Guise, who successfully claimed all of the Calais Pale for France in 1558. Coquelles (; vls, Kalkwelle, lang) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department near Calais in northern France. The town comprises a shopping centre, hotels and farm in Vieille Coquelles (old Coquelles), part of the L'Européenne autoroute (A16) and the Channel Tunnel terminal. The Eurotunnel Calais Terminal is located in Coquelles off the A16, exit 42. This is the terminus of shuttle services from the UK, as well as the terminus of the LGV Nord, whereby Eurostar services can travel into the Channel Tunnel.
