Gran Premio Della Lotteria
Gran Premio Lotteria, or Gran Premio della Lotteria, or in short, Lotteria, is an annual Group One harness event that takes place at Agnano Racetrack in Naples, Italy. The competition, which was inaugurated in 1951, is regarded as one of the most prestigious international events in trotting. The winner is decided through three qualifying heats and a subsequent final later the same day. Both the eliminations and the final are raced over 1,600 meters. Gran Premio Lotteria is part of the European Grand Circuit and the overall purse for the 2009 event was €600,600, equalling approximately US$795,000. The fastest winning time in the history of the race is 1:10.5, run by Timone Ek in 2017. Agnano Racetrack
Agnano is a suburb of Napoli, Italy, situated southwest of the city in the Campi Flegrei region. It was popular among both ancient Greeks and Romans and was famed for its hot sulphurous springs. History Lake Agnano formed in the Middle Ages in the volcanic crater but was drained in 1870 to increase arable land and reduce the habitat of the ''Anopheles'' mosquito, which carries the malaria parasite. The crater is now home to the Agnano hippodrome and the town. After World War II, Agnano was home to the U.S. Naval Support Activity consisting of the U.S. Naval Hospital, administrative offices, barracks, and two Department of Defense Education Activity schools: Naples Elementary School and Naples American High School. Charlie Mills (23 November 1888 in Hamburg – 7 June 1972 in Switzerland) was a German harness racing driver and trainer of an Irish descent. Mills was one of the most legendary harness racers in Europe during his long career that lasted from the 1900s to the early 1960s. Johannes Frömming
Johannes Wilhelm Arthur "Hänschen" Frömming (28 June 1910 – 8 November 1996) was a German harness racing driver and trainer. He is one of the most legendary horsemen in European harness racing. Frömming started his career at the age of 16 in 1926 and drove his last race in 1988. He won a total of 5,592 races. Frömming's major racing wins include three Prix d'Amérique and four Elitloppet victories. He was the German driving champion 11 times in a row from 1934 to 1944 and again in 1947 and 1948. In 1950 and 1953 Frömming tied the title with Gerhard Krüger. Awards and honors During World War II Frömming employed three Jewish horsemen on his farm outside Berlin and hid them from the Nazi authorities. He was later honored for his action by B'nai B'rith International in New York City. In 1972 Frömming received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Ina Scot (June 22, 1989 – December 21, 2013) was a Swedish racing trotter by Allen Hanover out of Lovina Grefgård by Mad Scot. Victory Tilly (born May 3, 1995) is a Swedish former racing trotter by Quick Pay out of Icora Tilly by Fakir du Vivier. His most prestigious victories include the Swedish Trotting Derby (Swedish: ''Svenskt Travderby''), Elitloppet, Nat Ray Trot and Gran Premio della Lotteria.
