Graham Quinn (rugby League)
Graham Quinn (born 13 December 1957) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s primarily in Sydney's NSWRFL competition. He won premierships with the St George Dragons and represented at both state and national levels. Club career Quinn attended Iona College, Brisbane, he was Queenslander junior and played his first senior rugby league with Brisbane Brothers. He signed as a centre with the St George Dragons in 1977 and was a member of the 'Bath's Babes' side who won the premiership that year. He played in both the historic 1977 Grand Final draw and replay against Parramatta. Two years later Quinn played in the Dragons' triumph over Canterbury in the 1979 Grand Final. New South Wales Rugby Football League Season 1979
The 1979 NSWRFL season was the 72nd season of Sydney's professional rugby league football competition, Australia's first. Twelve New South Wales Rugby Football League clubs competed for the J.J. Giltinan Shield and WD & HO Wills Cup during the season, which culminated in a grand final between the St. George and Canterbury-Bankstown clubs. NSWRFL teams also competed in the 1979 Amco Cup. Season summary Twenty-two regular season rounds were played from March till August, resulting in a top five of St. George, Parramatta, Cronulla-Sutherland, Western Suburbs and Canterbury-Bankstown who battled it out in the finals. Parramatta's Ray Price was the 1979 season's Rothmans Medallist, and also won ''Rugby League Week''’s player of the year award. The State of Origin series is an annual best-of-three rugby league series between two Australian state representative sides, the New South Wales Blues and the Queensland Maroons. Referred to as “Australian sport's greatest rivalry”, the State of Origin series is one of Australia's premier sporting events, attracting huge television audiences and usually selling out the stadiums in which the games are played. It is regularly described as being the pinnacle of rugby league, even in comparison with international competitions. The Queensland rugby league team represents the Australian state of Queensland in rugby league football. Nicknamed the "Maroons" after the colour of their jersey, they play three times a year against arch-rivals New South Wales rugby league team, New South Wales in the State of Origin series. The New Zealand national rugby league team (Māori: Tīma rīki motu Aotearoa) has represented New Zealand in rugby league since 1907. Administered by the New Zealand Rugby League, they are commonly known as the Kiwis, after the native bird of that name.
