Graham Miller (RAF Officer)
Air Marshal Sir Graham Anthony "Dusty" Miller, (born 31 October 1951) is a retired senior Royal Air Force officer. RAF career Miller joined the RAF as a craft apprentice in 210th entry, No. 1 School of Technical Training, RAF Halton in 1967. In 1969 he qualified as a junior technician at RAF Halton and was commissioned as an acting pilot officer on 2 January 1970 together with fellow member of 210th entry craft apprentices, Junior Technician Michael David James King. He was appointed Air Officer Commanding Training Group in 2002, Air Secretary in 2003 and Deputy Commander at Joint Force Command in Naples in 2004 before retiring on 31 January 2008. In 2002, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his service in Saudi Arabia, and upgraded to a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2007 New Year Honours. Royal Air Force
The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force. It was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918, becoming the first independent air force in the world, by regrouping the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). Following the Allied victory over the Central Powers in 1918, the RAF emerged as the largest air force in the world at the time. Since its formation, the RAF has taken a significant role in British military history. Royal Air Forces Association
The Royal Air Forces Association (also called the RAF Association or RAFA) is the largest single service membership organization and the longest standing registered service charity that provides welfare support to the family of RAF members. Their goal is to "provide friendship, help and support to current and former members of the Royal Air Force and their dependants." It was founded in 1929. As of 2018, the RAF Association had a membership of over 74,000 including active duty RAF personnel, veterans and non-service individuals. They have a UK-wide caseworker network of over 540 volunteer welfare caseworkers and over 500 befrienders, they undertake over 85,000 welfare contacts annually. Knights Commander Of The Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. Air Marshal Peter William David Ruddock, (born 5 February 1954) is a former senior commander in the Royal Air Force who served as Air Secretary from 2004 to 2006. RAF career Ruddock joined the Royal Air Force in 1974. Ian Michael Stewart
Air Vice Marshal Ian Michael Stewart, is a former senior commander in the Royal Air Force who served as Air Secretary from 1998 until his retirement in 2003. RAF career Stewart joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a pilot in 1969. He flew Harriers, commanded No. 1 (Fighter) Squadron and went on to be Station Commander at RAF Gutersloh and to command the Harrier Field Force in Germany. Air Marshal Sir David Allan Walker, (born 14 July 1956) is a Director at Alexander Mann Solutions, and a member of the Advisory Board of Auticon. He is a retired senior Royal Air Force officer and Master of the Household to the Sovereign. RAF career Walker was commissioned in the Administrative Branch of the Royal Air Force (RAF) on 1 September 1974. The High Sheriff is the oldest secular office under the Crown (in England and Wales the office previously known as sheriff was retitled High Sheriff on 1 April 1974).
