The governor of Western Australia is the representative in Western Australia of the monarch, King Charles III. As with the other governors of the Australian states, the governor of Western Australia performs constitutional, ceremonial and community functions, including: * presiding over the Executive Council * proroguing and dissolving the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council * issuing writs for elections * appointing Ministers, Judges, Magistrates and Justices of the Peace Furthermore, all bills passed by the Parliament of Western Australia require the governor's signature before they become acts and pass into law. Chris Dawson (governor)
Christopher John Dawson is the 34th Governor of Western Australia and a former police officer who served as the List of commissioners of the Western Australia Police Force, Commissioner of the Western Australia Police Force from 2017 to 2022. He was sworn in as governor on 15 July 2022. Police career Dawson joined Western Australia Police in February 1976 as a cadet. He was promoted to superintendent in 1999. Malcolm McCusker
Malcolm James McCusker (born 6 August 1938) is an Australian barrister and philanthropist who was the 31st Governor of Western Australia, serving from July 2011 to June 2014. Born in Perth, McCusker was educated at Hobart High School (in Hobart, Tasmania) and Perth Modern School, and later completed a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Western Australia. Kenneth Comninos Michael, (born 12 April 1938) is an Australian civil engineer, academic and former public servant who was the 30th Governor of Western Australia, serving from 2006 to 2011. Geoffrey Ian Gallop (born 27 September 1951) is an Australian academic and former politician who served as the 27th premier of Western Australia from 2001 to 2006. He is currently a professor and director of the Graduate School of Government at the University of Sydney and former chairman of the Australian Republican Movement. Rear Admiral Sir Richard John Trowbridge, (21 January 1920 – 4 May 2003), was a senior officer in the Royal Navy and the 25th Governor of Western Australia, serving from 25 November 1980 to 24 November 1983. Sir James Mitchell, (27 April 1866 – 26 July 1951) was an Australian politician. He served as premier of Western Australia from 1919 to 1924 and from 1930 to 1933, as leader of the Nationalist Party (Australia), Nationalist Party. He then held viceregal office from 1933 to 1951, as acting governor from 1933 to 1948 and governor of Western Australia from 1948 until his death in 1951.
