Governor of Belgorod Oblast (russian: Губернатор Белгородской области) is the highest official and the head of the executive power of Belgorod Oblast, a region in Central Russia. History of office The office of the Head of Administration was introduced in Russia in August 1991 during the downfall of the Soviet Union. Administrations and their Heads were supposed to replace Soviet executive committees (''ispolkoms'') and their chairmen. The first head of Belgorod Oblast Administration Viktor Berestovoy was appointed by president Boris Yeltsin in November 1991. Two years later he was removed from office for his support of the Supreme Soviet and Vice President Alexander Rutskoy in the 1993 constitutional crisis. Berestovoy's successor Yevgeny Savchenko, had previously worked as deputy head of the Main Directorate of Crop Production of the Ministry of Agriculture. Vyacheslav Vladimirovich Gladkov (russian: Вячеслав Владимирович Гладков; born 15 January 1969) is a Russian statesman and politician. He became the governor of the Belgorod Region on 27 September 2021, after serving as its acting governor since 18 November 2020. He is a member of the United Russia party. He was the Deputy Governor of Sevastopol from 28 July 2016 to 16 April 2018, and was the Deputy Prime Minister of the Stavropol Krai - Chief of Staff of the Government of the Stavropol Krai from 13 June 2018 to 18 November 2020. 2021 Belgorod Oblast Gubernatorial Election
The 2021 Belgorod Oblast gubernatorial election took place on 17–19 September 2021, on common election day, coinciding with election to the State Duma. Acting Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov was elected for his first full term. Background On 22 September 2020 longtime Governor Yevgeny Savchenko was elected to the Federation Council by the Belgorod Oblast Duma. He resigned from the governorship which he held from 1993 being the longest-serving Russian Governor. He won his last gubernatorial election in 2017 with 69.29% of the vote. After Savchenko's resignation First Vice Governor Denis Butsayev became acting Governor of Belgorod Oblast. Denis Petrovich Butsayev (Russian: Денис Петрович Буца́ев; born on 7 March 1977), is a Russian statesman, who served as the acting governor of Belgorod Oblast from 22 September 2020 to 18 November 2020. 2012 Russian Gubernatorial Elections
Russian gubernatorial elections in 2012 took place on 14 October in Amur, Bryansk, Belgorod, Novgorod and Ryazan oblasts. The ballots in governors’ elections in the Amur, Belgorod and Ryazan regions had four names to choose from. The ballot in the Novgorod region contained three names. In total, 17 candidates from six political parties competed for five governor seats.
