Gouda is a railway station in Gouda, Netherlands. The station opened on 21 May 1855 when the Nederlandsche Rhijnspoorweg-Maatschappij (Dutch Rijn Railway Company) opened the Utrecht–Rotterdam railway. The Gouda–Den Haag railway to The Hague was opened in 1870, and the connection to Alphen a/d Rijn in 1934. Trains running between Den Haag Centraal / Rotterdam Centraal and Utrecht Centraal call at the station, as well as the RijnGouweLijn connection to Alphen a/d Rijn. Gouda () is a city and municipality in the west of the Netherlands, between Rotterdam and Utrecht, in the province of South Holland. Gouda has a population of 75,000 and is famous for its Gouda cheese, stroopwafels, many grachten, smoking pipes, and its 15th-century city hall. s-Hertogenbosch () is a railway station located in 's-Hertogenbosch in North Brabant, Netherlands. The station and all services operating from it are run by Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the national Dutch train operating company. History 's-Hertogenbosch station opened on 1 November 1868 as the northern terminus of the southern part of the Utrecht–Boxtel railway (''Staatslijn H''), with service south to Boxtel. Only in 1870 were the two parts of Line H joined, allowing for direct service to Utrecht Centraal. RijnGouweLijn
The RijnGouweLijn ( en, The Rhine-Gouwe Line), or RGL, was a proposed light rail project in South Holland, Netherlands, that used some new tracks and some existing tracks from the Gouda–Alphen aan den Rijn railway and the Woerden–Leiden railway. However, the new section might have used bus rapid transit (BRT) instead. From 2003 to 2009 light rail vehicles operated on the Gouda–Alphen aan den Rijn railway, sharing these tracks with regular NS stock. As of 2013, only NS stock is used on the railway. Original plan The RGL would have been the first system in the Netherlands where light rail vehicles shared heavy rail tracks with heavy rail trains, similar to the tram-train systems around Karlsruhe and Saarbrücken, Germany. Alphen Aan Den Rijn Railway Station
Alphen a/d Rijn railway station is a railway station in Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands. History The railway station was opened in 1878, as part of a railway connection between Leiden and Woerden. A connection between Alphen aan den Rijn and Uithoorn was opened in 1915. The line was extended to Gouda in 1932, but the connection between Alphen aan den Rijn and Uithoorn was closed in 1936. The railway station was renovated for the RijnGouweLijn from Gouda in 2004, involving the construction of an additional platform. In 2007 a major redesign of the railway station and its surrounding area started. The original railway station building (built in 1878) was demolished to make room for a tunnel underneath the railway and a bike storage facility. The new tunnel links the old town centre with the new district "Kerk en Zanen", which used to be separated from the town centre by the railway.
