A Gothenburg derby ( sv, Göteborgsderby) is the name given to any fixture between football clubs from Gothenburg, the traditional football capital of Sweden. The major derbies are traditionally played between GAIS, IFK Göteborg, and Örgryte IS, but five other Gothenburg teams have also played in the top tier of Swedish football, giving rise to additional hotly contested derbies. Gothenburg
Gothenburg (; abbreviated Gbg; sv, Göteborg ) is the second-largest city in Sweden, fifth-largest in the Nordic countries, and capital of the Västra Götaland County. Allsvenskan
Allsvenskan (; en, the All-Swedish, also known as Fotbollsallsvenskan, en, the Football All-Swedish) is a Swedish professional league for men's association football clubs. It was founded in 1924 and is the top tier of the Swedish football league system, operating on a system of promotion and relegation with Superettan. Seasons run from late March or early April to the beginning of November, with the 16 clubs all meeting each other twice, resulting in a 30-match season, for a total of 240 matches league-wide. Allsvenskan is ranked 23rd in the UEFA coefficients of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the last five years. Gamla Ullevi
Gamla Ullevi () is a football stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden, that opened on 5 April 2009. The stadium replaced the city's previous main football stadium, also called Gamla Ullevi, and is the home ground of GAIS, IFK Göteborg and Örgryte IS. It is also the national stadium for the Sweden women's national football team. The new stadium was built on the ground of the now-demolished old stadium. The construction of the stadium was surrounded by controversy, regarding the cost of the project, the alleged low standard of the finished stadium, as well as its name. The first competitive match at the stadium on 5 April 2009 was also an Allsvenskan derby between Örgryte IS and GAIS, attracting 17,531 spectators. GAIS won, 5–1. Ullevi, sometimes known as Nya Ullevi (, ''New Ullevi''), is a multi-purpose stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was built for the 1958 FIFA World Cup, but since then has also hosted the World Allround Speed Skating Championships six times; the 1995 World Championships in Athletics and the 2006 European Athletics Championships; the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup finals in 1983 and 1990; the UEFA Euro 1992 final, the UEFA Cup final in 2004; and annually hosted the opening ceremony of the Gothia Cup, the world's largest football tournament in terms of the number of participants. Swedish Football Division 2
Division 2 is the fourth level in the league system of Swedish football and comprises 84 Swedish football teams. Division 2 had status as the official second level from 1928 to 1986 but was replaced by Division 1 in 1987. It then had status as the official third level until 2005 but was replaced once again by the recreated Division 1 in 2006. ''Göteborgsalliansen'' is a football alliance created in 1921 by the three Gothenburg-clubs GAIS, IFK Göteborg and Örgryte IS. The clubs were dominating Swedish football at the time and got together to arrange big international games with the best players from each team. Carl Linde became its first chairman. The most notable games were against the Swedish national team in the opening game of the new Gothenburg-stadium Ullevi in 1958, which ended 2–2, and against Real Madrid in front of 47,214 in the attendance. The Utsiktens BK is a Swedish football club located in Västra Frölunda, near Gothenburg. Background Since their foundation in 1935 Utsiktens BK has participated mainly in the middle and lower divisions of the Swedish football league system.
