Gordon Mackie (politician)
Gordon Charlton Mackie (13 August 1911 – 5 May 1990) was an Australian politician, elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the seat of Albury. Mackie moved to Albury as a young man where his father was a businessman and farmer and Gordon Mackie became a grazier. He served in the Second Australian Imperial Force during World War II. He married Edna and had one son and one daughter. He was a councillor of Culcairn Shire from 1959 until 1965 and deputy president of it from 1959 until 1965. Mackie was elected the Liberal member for Albury in 1965 and held it until he retired in 1977. He was later replaced by Harold Mair Harold David Mair, OAM (2 June 1919 – 7 September 2011) was an Australian politician. Mair was mayor of Albury from 1976 until 1977. New South Wales Legislative Assembly
The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly has 93 members, elected by single-member constituency, which are commonly known as seats. Voting is by the optional preferential system. Members of the Legislative Assembly have the post-nominals MP after their names. Albury is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is currently held by Justin Clancy of the Liberal Party. Albury is a regional electorate in the state's south. It encompasses the local government areas of the City of Albury, Greater Hume Shire, Federation Council, part of Murrumbidgee Council, part of Snowy Valleys Council that includes the town of Cabramurra. Second Australian Imperial Force
The Second Australian Imperial Force (2nd AIF, or Second AIF) was the name given to the volunteer expeditionary force of the Australian Army in the Second World War. It was formed following the declaration of war on Nazi Germany, with an initial strength of one infantry division and related auxiliary components. After considerable expansion of this force, three divisions were sent to the Middle East and North Africa, while the 8th Division was sent to garrison British Malaya and Singapore. Under the ''Defence Act 1903'', neither the part-time Militia nor the full-time Permanent Military Force (PMF) could serve outside Australia or its territories unless they volunteered to do so. Greater Hume Shire is a local government area in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales, Australia. The Shire was formed in 2004 incorporating Culcairn Shire, the majority of Holbrook Shire and part of Hume Shire. The shire had an estimated population of 10,137 as at 2012. Estimated resident population (ERP) at 30 June 2012. The Shire is located adjacent to the Hume, Olympic and Riverina Highways and the Sydney–Melbourne railway. The Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division), commonly known as the New South Wales Liberals, is the state division of the Liberal Party of Australia in New South Wales. The party currently governs in New South Wales in coalition with the National Party of Australia (NSW). The party is part of the federal Liberal Party which is in opposition nationally. Following the Liberal Party's formation in October 1944, the NSW division of the Liberal Party was formed in January 1945. Harold Mair
Harold David Mair, OAM (2 June 1919 – 7 September 2011) was an Australian politician. Mair was mayor of Albury from 1976 until 1977. In 1978, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for Albury, representing the Labor Party. He was only the second Labor member ever to win Albury since it was recreated in 1927, and to date the only Labor member to hold this traditionally conservative seat for more than one term. In 1988 he lost his seat to the Liberal Party's Ian Glachan, who had been his opponent in 1984. Doug Padman
Dudley Gordon Padman OBE (16 June 1885 – 31 August 1970) was a Liberal Party politician. Padman was born in Adelaide and educated at Bridgewater, South Australia and Prince Alfred College. He married Bertha Elizabeth Scholz in 1912 and they had a daughter and two sons. He was an alderman of Albury Council from 1930 to 1947 and Mayor from 1939 until 1945. Padman was elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the seat of Albury in 1947, and served until 1965. He was made an OBE in 1966.
