Gopher Broke (1958 Film)
''Gopher Broke'' is a 1958 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon short directed by Robert McKimson. The cartoon was released on November 15, 1958, and features the Goofy Gophers and the Barnyard Dawg. The voices are performed by Mel Blanc and Stan Freberg. The title is a pun on the phrase "''go for broke''". Plot The Goofy Gophers are about to harvest the vegetables on the farm when the farmhands beat them to the punch. Worried that their food source is being "vandalized," they follow the truck to the barn so they can recover what they consider to be their food. However, they spot the guard dog and realize that if he were to awaken and spot them stealing the vegetables, he would cause them trouble. The Gophers spend most of the rest of the cartoon using psychological wear-down tactics to drive the dog insane and remove him as a threat to their well-being. Robert McKimson
Robert Porter McKimson Sr. (October 13, 1910 – September 29, 1977) was an American animator and illustrator, best known for his work on the ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons from Warner Bros. Cartoons and later DePatie–Freleng Enterprises. He wrote and directed many animated cartoon shorts starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, Hippety Hopper, and The Tasmanian Devil, among other characters. He was also well known for defining Bugs Bunny's look in the 1943 short ''Tortoise Wins by a Hare''. Career Born in Denver, Colorado, McKimson spent ten years gaining an art education at the Lukits School of Art. ''Tease for Two'' is a 1965 Warner Bros. '' Looney Tunes'' directed by Robert McKimson. The short was released on August 28, 1965, and stars Daffy Duck and the Goofy Gophers in their final appearance. The voices were performed by Mel Blanc. The cartoon marked the final theatrical appearance of the Goofy Gophers during the original Golden Age of Animation era. Unlike previous Goofy Gophers cartoons where the characters were performed by Blanc and Stan Freberg voiced the Gophers, in this cartoon Blanc performs both parts.
