The Goonies
''The Goonies'' is a 1985 American adventure comedy film co-produced and directed by Richard Donner from a screenplay by Chris Columbus, based on a story by Steven Spielberg. In the film, kids who live in the "Goon Docks" neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, attempt to save their homes from foreclosure and, in doing so, they discover an old treasure map that takes them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate. During the adventure, they are chased by a family of criminals who want the treasure for themselves. Produced by Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, Warner Bros. released the film theatrically on June 7, 1985, in the United States. The film grossed $125 million worldwide on a budget of $19 million and has since become a cult film. The Goonies (Famicom Video Game)
is a 1986 platform game based on the film of the same name produced by Konami for the Family Computer. Konami also developed a completely different version for the MSX in Japan. First released on cartridge, it was later re-released in Disk System format in 1988. Although the game was never sold in retail in North America, Nintendo published an arcade port in North America for the VS. System (a coin-operated platform which runs on the same hardware as the NES) under the title ''Vs. The Goonies'' and it was also available as a PlayChoice-10 title in the region. A sequel was released titled '' The Goonies II'', which saw a worldwide retail release. ''The Goonies'' is a puzzle-platform game programmed by Scott Spanburg and published in 1985 by Datasoft. It is based on the Richard Donner film ''The Goonies'' (1985). Gameplay The game has eight stages, each based on a scene from the film. In each stage, the two Goonies must work together to solve puzzles and reach the exit to move on to the next stage. In single-player mode the joystick button can be used to switch between the two characters, and in the two player mode, each player controls one Goonie. Reception The game received positive reviews. Datasoft, Inc. (also written as DataSoft and Data Soft) was a software developer and publisher for home computers founded in 1980 by Pat Ketchum and based out of Chatsworth, California. Datasoft primarily published video games, including home ports of arcade games, games based on licenses from movies and TV shows, and original games. Like competitor Synapse Software, the company also published other software: development tools, word processors, and utilities. Text Wizard, written by William Robinson and published by Datasoft when he was 16, was the basis for AtariWriter.
