Goodnight Scrub National Park
Goodnight Scrub is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 274 km northwest of Brisbane. It is located in the locality of Good Night which is split between the Bundaberg Region and the North Burnett Region local government areas, but is predominantly in the Bundaberg Region part of the locality. The park covers an area of of land within the Burnett River water catchment and the South East Queensland bioregions. At the southern extent of the park is the Paradise Dam. Goodnight Scrub National Park protects dry rainforest predominated by hoop pine ''Araucaria cunninghamii'' is a species of '' Araucaria'' known as hoop pine. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) is a business division of the Department of Environment and Science within the Government of Queensland. Good Night is a rural locality split between the Bundaberg Region and the North Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. It is also written as Goodnight. In the , Good Night had a population of 117 people. Geography The Burnett River bounds the locality to the south-east and Kallina Creek to the south-west. The Goodnight Scrub National Park occupies most of the southern part of the locality, which is accessed from Booyal on the Bruce Highway via a low-level bridge over the Burnett River. There is some rural residential development in the east of the locality and some crop growing in the north. Apart from these the predominant land use is grazing on native vegetation. The Burnett River is a river located in the Wide Bay–Burnett and Central Queensland regions of Queensland, Australia. Course and features The Burnett River rises in the Burnett Range, part of the Great Dividing Range, close to Mount Gaeta and east of Monto. It drains a basin covering 33,210 km² which is 1.9% of the total area of Queensland. The river flows generally south past Eidsvold and Mundubbera before heading east, adjacent to the townships of Gayndah and Wallaville before entering the city of Bundaberg. Paradise Dam (Queensland)
The Paradise Dam, also known as the Burnett River Dam, is a roller compacted concrete (RCC) gravity dam across the Burnett River, located between Coringa and Good Night northwest and southwest of in the Wide Bay-Burnett region of Queensland, Australia. Built for irrigation, the impoundment created by the dam is called Lake Paradise. In September 2019, concerns about the structural stability of the dam resulted in the water levels in the dam being lowered to 42% of its maximum capacity. In 2020 a report found that the roller-compacted concrete was "intrinsically incapable" of achieving the required standard for safety. Araucaria Cunninghamii
''Araucaria cunninghamii'' is a species of ''Araucaria'' known as hoop pine. Other less commonly used names include colonial pine, Queensland pine, Dorrigo pine, Moreton Bay pine and Richmond River pine. The scientific name honours the botanist and explorer Allan Cunningham, who collected the first specimens in the 1820s. Habitat The species is found in the dry rainforests of New South Wales and Queensland and in New Guinea. The trees can live up to 450 years and grow to a height of 60 metres. The bark is rough, splits naturally, and peels easily. Description The leaves on young trees are awl-shaped, 1–2 cm long, about 2 mm thick at the base, and scale-like, incurved, 1–2 cm long and 4 mm broad on mature trees. The cones are ovoid, 8–10 cm long and 6–8 cm diameter, and take about 18 months to mature. They disintegrate at maturity to release the nut-like edible seeds.
