Charles Goodell
Charles Ellsworth Goodell Jr. (March 16, 1926January 21, 1987) was an American politician who represented New York (state), New York in the United States House of Representatives from 1959 to 1968 and the United States Senate from 1968 to 1971. In both cases he came into office following the deaths of his predecessors, first in a special election and second as a temporary appointee succeeding Robert F. Kennedy. He was elected to four full terms in Congress after winning his first race in 1959. He resigned on September 9, 1968, to accept an appointment by Governor Nelson Rockefeller to fill the vacancy caused by the Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, assassination of United States Senator Robert F. Kennedy on June 5, 1968. Charles Goodell (born 1853)
Charles Goodell (May 11, 1853 – October 13, 1940) was an American farmer and politician from New York. Life Goodell was born on May 11, 1853, in Decatur, New York. Once he reached his majority, he was elected Town Clerk. He then served as town supervisor in 1879, 1880, and 1881. In 1885, he moved to Worcester, where he was appointed, and then elected, justice of the peace. He was a farmer and a dealer in hops, butter, and other farm produce. In 1891, he was elected to the New York State Assembly as a Democrat, representing the Otsego County 1st District. He served in the Assembly in 1892. Goodell was a member of the Methodist church. He was a freemason and a member of The Elks and the Woodmen of the World. In 1935, Goodell moved to West Palm Beach, Florida. He died there on October 13, 1940. Grace E. Goodell is a retired professor of International Development at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. Goodell received her Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University, where she studied under Conrad Arensberg. She has been a visiting scholar at the Australian National University and at the Harvard Institute for International Development, a fellow in law and development at the Harvard Law School, and a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Roger Stokoe Goodell (born February 19, 1959) is an American businessman who is currently the commissioner of the National Football League (NFL). On August 8, 2006, Goodell was chosen to succeed retiring commissioner Paul Tagliabue. He was chosen for the position over four finalists; he won a close vote on the fifth ballot before being unanimously approved by acclamation of the owners. Goodell Creek is a tributary of the Skagit River in the U.S. state of Washington. Course For most of its length Goodell Creek flows through North Cascades National Park. It originates in the Picket Range of the North Cascades. Its headwaters drain the south and west sides of the high peaks around Mount Fury and the eastern slope of Mount Crowder. The creek flows generally south collecting the waters of numerous tributaries, many of which are glacial fed. Crescent Creek drains the southwestern slopes of Mount Terror, then flows west to join Goodell Creek. Below the Crescent Creek confluence Goodell Creek turns to the southeast, collecting tributaries draining Mount Despair and Mount Triumph to the west.
