Golden Rose Synagogue, Dnipro
The Golden Rose Synagogue ( uk, Дніпровська Хоральна Синагога «Золота Роза») is a synagogue on Kotsyubinskiy Street/Sholom Aleichem street in Dnipro, Ukraine. History The Golden Rose synagogue was built in 1868 (when Dnipro was named Yekaterinoslav). In 1924 the building was used as a workers' club and a warehouse and above the portice a seal of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was located in place of the Magen David. In 1996 the building was returned to the Jewish community. In 1999 the reconstruction began, following the design by a local Jewish architect, A. Dolnik. Frank Meisler, an Israeli artist, designed the foyer, the prayer hall and the Holy Ark. Above the sanctuary entrance is a representation of golden roses, made by Meisler. A small rotunda between the lobby and sanctuary is decorated with the first line of the Sh’ma Israel prayer. The first words of Sh'ma Israel in Hebrew are at left, but the first words in Russian ...

Frank Meisler
Frank Meisler (30 December 1925 – 24 March 2018) was an Israeli architect and sculptor. Meisler was born in the Free City of Danzig and grew up in England, before moving to Israel in 1956. In 1953 he married Batya (Phillis) Hochman with whom he had 2 daughters: Michal Meisler Yehuda and Marit Meisler. He died in Jaffa in 2018. Biography Frank Meisler was born into a Jewish family in Danzig (now Gdańsk, Poland), he was evacuated by the Kindertransport in August 1939, travelling with other Jewish children via Berlin to the Netherlands and then to Liverpool Street station in London. His parents were later murdered at Auschwitz concentration camp. He was raised by an aunt, who lived in London. He attended school in Harrow, and then did national service in the Royal Air Force. He studied architecture at the University of Manchester, and was involved in the construction of the Heathrow Airport. The Menorah center ( uk, Центр "Менора") is a cultural and business center of the Jewish community in Dnipro in Eastern Ukraine. Synagogue architecture often follows styles in vogue at the place and time of construction. There is no set blueprint for synagogues and the architectural shapes and interior designs of synagogues vary greatly.
