Gogita's New Life
''Gogita's New Life'' ( ka, Gogitas akhali ckhovreba) is a 2016 Georgian documentary film directed by Levan Koguashvili. It was screened in the Feature-Length Documentary section at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. Synopsis The film is about a middle-aged man, who returns to a normal life, after 14 years in prison and meets a girl by the internet - Maka, who lives with her mother in their farm. Her job is baking cakes and Gogita soon find outs that she is the prettiest woman in the world. Production Levan Koguashvili started to develop the film idea in early 2012. He was interested in conditions of prisons in Georgian jails, but it was difficult to make a film into the prison. "The only way to get permission to film inside was through the churches in the jails, and Gogita was one of the guys coming to the church in the jail." Levan Koguashvili
Levan Koguashvili ( ka, ლევან კოღუაშვილი; March 18, 1973) is a Georgian film director and screenwriter. He studied in Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography after graduating school. Biography Levan Koguashvili was born in 1973 in Tbilisi, Georgia. He began his studies at the State Institute of Film and Theatre in Tbilisi, and then worked as a journalist for independent television after civil war broke out in Georgia. He studied Film Directing at the Russian State University of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow between 1994 and 1999. He Graduated from the Tisch School of Art's Graduate Film Program in New York City in 2006 and he made several short films and documentaries. His 2006 short film, The Debt, was an Official Selection of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, and his documentary, Women from Georgia, was selected for the Panorama section of the 2009 Sarajevo Film Festival. The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) is the world's largest documentary film festival held annually since 1988 in Amsterdam. Over a period of twelve days, it has screened more than 300 films and sold more than 250,000 tickets. Visitors to the festival have increased from 65,000 in 2000 to 285,000 in 2018.
