Global Health and Vaccination Research (GLOBVAC) is a programme of the Research Council of Norway. Its primary objective is to support high-quality research with potential for high impact that can contribute to sustainable improvements in health and health equity for poor people in low- and lower-middle income countries (LMIC). Research Council Of Norway
The Research Council (also the Research Council of Norway; no, Norges forskningsråd) is a Norwegian government agency that funds research and innovation projects. On behalf of the Government, the Research Council invests NOK 11,9 billion (2021) annually. The Research Council is responsible for promoting basic and applied research and innovation. This is done by managing research funding and by advising the authorities on research policy, among other things through proposals for the research budget in the National Budget. The Research Council works to promote international research and innovation cooperation, and has a number of schemes to mobilise Norwegian applicants for the EU Research and Innovation Programme. Other tasks include creating meeting places for researchers, trade and industry, public administration, public actors and other users of research. Peter Smith (epidemiologist)
Peter George Smith (born 3 May 1942) CBE BSc DSc HonMFPHM FMedSci, is an eminent epidemiologist and Professor of Tropical Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Background Peter Smith graduated in mathematics from City University, London and joined the Medical Research Council's Statistical Research Unit in 1965. He went on to work on various aspects of epidemiological and statistical research including: MRC Clinical and Population Cytogenetics Research Unit, Edinburgh (1967–69); Makerere University Medical School, Uganda (1970–71); International Agency for Research on Cancer, Lyon, France and Uganda (1971–72); Imperial Cancer Research Fund Cancer Epidemiology Unit, Oxford (1972–79). He joined LSHTM in 1979 to head the Tropical Epidemiology Unit. Nelson Sewankambo
Nelson Kawulukusi Sewankambo, MBChB, MMed, MSc, FRCP, LLD (Hon), sometimes spelled as Nelson Ssewankambo, is a Ugandan physician, academician, medical researcher, and medical administrator. He is a professor of medicine and former principal of the Makerere University College of Health Sciences, a semi-autonomous constituent college of Makerere University. Background He was born at Mulago Hospital, in Kampala, Uganda's capital city, in 1952. Education Sewankambo was educated at Namilyango College, an all-boys residential middle and high school (grades: eight to thirteen) located in Mukono District, from 1965 until 1970. In 1971, he entered the Makerere University School of Medicine, where he obtained the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, graduating in 1976. Rifat Atun
Rifat Atun is a British physician and academic who, as of January 2024, serves as the Professor of Global Health Systems and Director of the Health System Innovation Lab at Harvard University. He is one of the most important figures in the contemporary study of comparative health systems and healthcare innovation and has made substantial contributions to health systems theory, health systems reform, and innovation in health systems. Career Atun served as the Faculty Chair for the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program from 2015 to 2022. He was a member of the Executive Management Team of the Global Fund from 2008 to 2012, where he held the position of Director of Strategy, Performance, and Evaluation.
