Glen's Flow Law
Glen's Markets was an American supermarket chain. Founded in Gaylord, Michigan in 1951 by C. Glen Catt, the chain had more than 30 locations across Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Expansions in the 1980s onward came through location acquisitions of other chains, including Ashcraft's and Prevo's. For most of its history, Glen's Markets were an affiliate of Spartan Stores (now SpartanNash), which bought the chain outright in 1999. Starting in 2010, Spartan began converting Glen's stores to the Family Fare name, with the last ones being converted in 2014. History The first Glen's Market was opened in 1951 in Gaylord, Michigan by C. Glen Catt, in a store originally known as Vincent's. The store was expanded later in the 1950s, just as Glen's became affiliated Spartan Foods (now SpartanNash). Stores in Kalkaska and Grayling opened in 1956 and 1959. Oscoda, Michigan
Oscoda ( ) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Iosco County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The CDP had a population of 916 at the 2020 census. The community is located within Au Sable Township and Oscoda Township at the mouth of the Au Sable River along Lake Huron. History The area was first settled as early as 1867 when the firm of Smith, Kelley, & Dwight purchased land here and platted the community. A post office under the name Au Sable served the area until the Oscoda post office was established on July 1, 1875. The name Oscoda is believed to come from Henry Schoolcraft, who used a shortened form of ossin and muscoda, which means a pebbly prairie. The Lumberman's Monument is located nearby and was dedicated in 1932 in honor of the early lumberjacks that first populated the area. Red Owl (retail Chain)
Red Owl was a grocery store chain in the United States, headquartered in Hopkins, Minnesota. Founded in 1922, it was initially owned and operated by a private investment firm affiliated with General Mills, and purchased in 1968 by Gamble-Skogmo. History Red Owl started as a coal company in the 1920s. It opened its first store in Rochester, Minnesota. Eventually there were stores throughout the Upper Midwest, with one having opened in Bismarck, North Dakota, in 1927. The chain briefly expanded into the Chicago area starting in late 1959, but in 1963 sold its Chicago area operations to National Tea Company. In 1980, Gamble-Skogmo was acquired by Wickes Corporation, which sold the chain to three executives of the chain in January 1986. At that time, the company operated 441 stores in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and North and South Dakota. Harrison, Michigan
Harrison is a city in and county seat of Clare County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,150 at the 2020 census. The community was settled as early as 1877 and was named after William Henry Harrison. Harrison is near the junction of US 127 and M-61. US 127 bypasses the city to the east, while Bus. East Tawas is a city in Iosco County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,663 at the 2020 census. History The western New York firm Smith, Van Valkenburg, & Company bought land in the area in order to exploit the area's lumber resources.
