Glasscock County, Texas
Glasscock County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,116. Its county seat is Garden City. The county was created in 1887 and later organized in 1893. It is named for George Washington Glasscock, an early settler of the Austin, Texas area and the namesake of Georgetown, Texas. Glasscock County is included in the Big Spring, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (0.1%) is water. The Spraberry Trend, the third-largest oil field in the United States by remaining reserves, underlies much of the county. This pro-Republican trend is reflected in party membership. Glasscock County Courthouse
The Glasscock County Courthouse is an historic courthouse building located in Garden City, Texas, Garden City, Glasscock County, Texas. Built in 1909 to 1910 at a cost of $28,000, it was designed by Georgia-born United States, American architect Edward Columbus Hosford, who is noted for the courthouses and other buildings that he designed in Florida, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia and Texas. It was built of granite and rusticated stone with gable front porticoes on all sides, each of which is supported by four 2-story Doric order, Doric columns. Unlike the Mason County Courthouse (Texas), Mason County Courthouse also designed by Hosford and built at the same time for $39,786, the Glasscock County Courthouse has no clock tower cupola in the center of its roof and its side porticoes are smaller than the other two. Glasscock County Independent School District is a public school district located in Garden City, Texas, U.S. The district educates about 300 students in two schools. Glasscock County ISD is the home of the Bearkats and Ladykats. Their school colors are red, black, and white. The football team won the 2009 Division I six-man football championship; the title game (against Strawn, a state six-man powerhouse in its own right) set several state championship records for a six-man contest: *Most points scored in a title game by the winning team (122 by Garden City), the losing team (88 by Strawn) and total (210) *Most points scored in a quarter (84 in the second quarter) and a half (116 in the first half) In 2007, Glasscock County High School earned a Bronze Medal rank in the U.S. News/SchoolMatters Best High School ratings.
